$4.5 million for a defensive forward are you kidding me! Trouble is we may be stuck with him for another year, unless we pick up half his contract, no other team will touch him.

As far as defensive forwards go how many do you want on your team, we only have four forwards who can score or four top six, filling two more top six spots is top priority and the Jets sure as heck didn't plan on paying a guy Jokinens money for a bottom six guy which he really only is at this point in his career.

4.5 is peanuts... If he was a consistent scorer he would be making 6-7+ Easily. He isnt tho he is a Big Center that can give you 40 pts and you always overpay for FA's thats life

Jokinen had 56 and 61 points the last two years, now the weak minded are pushing him under the bus after 27 games in a new team and system :D

Hey there, Devils fan here. Thanks for beating the Rangers by the way, them losing is almost as important as my Devils winning. :handclap:

Didn't see a Trade thread, or maybe I missed it, but just a quick question:

No rumors or anything, but was just wondering if Wheeler is able to be traded, and if so, what would it take from NJ to do so? Just in a hypothetical sense, not saying either team should do it.

EDIT: Just want some Winnipeg fan's thoughts on it.

i think he's the most talented Jets' forward. if he could borrow Kane's shot, he'd be killer.
no way in hell would i trade him away.

I doubt the Jets are looking to trade Wheeler. At the moment he is easily the Jets top RW, and he has developed an amazing chemistry with Ladd and Little. The price for Wheeler would be much higher then Devils fans would want to pay.

There's no way most Jets fans would want to get rid of Wheeler for anything but a pretty good overpayment right now. One Jets fan in particular (that'd be me) wouldn't want to trade him to those stinky Devils. :D

I hate to be the bucket of cold water, especially after that beast of a third period last night (one the the team's best ever), but you have know that the possibility they lay a large stinky egg on the ice is looming large. If the next two games go by without that happening, I will gladly eat crow. Two, if that serves to make two more wins a possibility.

Moving on, where's all the hate for Ladd and Kane gone? It seems as though our third line scrub of a captain and floater/diva have shut up all the naysayers. If every player showed up for games like Ladd and Kane do, we wouldn't be talking play-off possibilities, we'd be discussing first-round match-ups against lower seeded teams. Those are two very intense and competitive guys. Ladd and Kane are willing to do the dirty work in the corners and in front of the goal, willing to defend their own zone with ferocity, hustle their butts off on the PK, and generally do what it takes to make wins happen.

Kane and Ladd have speed to spare - I honestly didn't realize just how fast Ladd can skate until the empty netter last night. The two of them must be in the top 10% in the NHL for straight ahead burners.

And maybe now, Antropov, Jokinen and Wellwood will start getting the respect they deserve. Granted, Antro and Welly are not the fastest of skaters, but they sure know where to position themselves, and watching both of them willing to forecheck by throwing some good checks was enjoyable. Olli Jokinen is so good defensively and so responsible in the neutral and defensive zone that I can forgive the lack of offense that was expected.

I would like to see more of the Kane, Jokinen and Miettenin line - a few times they've shown some chemistry and a willingness to get dirty that I really appreciate.

I really hope that the last-two-games Jets show up in Toronto on Saturday - it will show me that they have finally realized what they need to do to cement a play-off position, as well as providing me with some non-stop entertainment reading the Leafs GDT and PGT.

Once more, I'm willing to eat crow if they compete like they have for the last two games.

Likelyhood of making the playoffs, given that the Jets finish with the following records:
Points|W|L|L-OT|Chance
56|12|7|2|99.8
|11|6|4|99.7
55|11|7|3|98.4
|12|8|1|98.9
54|11|8|2|94.8
|10|7|4|93.6
53|10|8|3|82.5
|11|9|1|86.3
Even going JUST over .500, at 11-9-1 gives them an 86% chance of making it into the playoffs, based on historical data.

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Southeast/Winnipeg.html
The first 14 games of the season, Jets averaged 0.786 points per game (standings points, that is) and the last 13 games they have averaged 1.462. I figure they need to average about 1.17 points per game for the remaining 21 games to get in. Totally doable.

Ladd seems to have turned it up a notch in these last two games. He has really been finishing his checks.

Yep. And if your captain is doing it, every other guy best be doing it too. The team has seemed to follow Ladd and really amped up the intensity.

You know, If Joker wants to come back to Winnipeg on a smaller contract after next year, I say let him. He's not going to be the scoring center he was in his younger days, but you can tell your criticisms to those 2 d-zone face offs he won with under a minute left in the game. Ladd is showing leadership by scoring goals and banging bodies. Olli is showing it with good defensive play, and by making pressure plays like that.

Now if only they can ALL FOLLOW HIS LEAD AND SCORE THAT MANY GOALS!

That's probably how Noel got the math for 45000 power play goals. :sarcasm:

But really, Ladd's on fire.

Olli won those two draws, but he is a sub 50% faceoff man over his career and I really don't think he is effective in a shut down role.

I don't want him as a defensive specialist.

Rangers - Coach Tortorella, Callahan and Lundqvist.

To listen click here.

Lol, just listened to the Torts feed.

Journalist: "How did you feel about the Tortorella chant from the crowd?"

Torts: "What? The What?"

Random dude: "Uh ok, next question please. Question about the game please?"

While I agree...I firmly believe that his offense will come in time. For now, he's doing alot of other things right.

Well the Jets kept my home record a perfect 3-0-0 last night, outscoring their opponents 15-4 during those games. I followed the game up with some poutine, beers, and drunken dancing. I'm just now starting to put the pieces of last night together.

But is he sub 50% in recent years when in the defensive zone in the last minute of a game?

That sounds like a bit of a Troll-ey comment  (not to be confused with trolleys) but it kind of isn't. There are guys that will win that faceoff equally at any point in the game, and then there are guys who find that edge when it matters. Clearly Noel trusted him to put him out there for that, and that carries some weight with me.

I don't think he should ever be a defensive specialist per say, but I don't mind playing him in a slightly more defensive role where he has enough opportunities to be an offensive threat too, because that part of his game is likely not as lost as it seems, I'd wager. (though I do expect it has declined) On a bottom six line that gets more than just shutdown minutes, persay.

Well, everyone but Olli and Little were brutal in the face-off circle last night. So at least Olli was clutch on those final face-offs. Still, when did he turn into a 'pass first' guy? What happened to the nice shot release he used to have? It's slow as molasses nowadays.

As for Ladd, I wouldn't say he's particularly fast...his top end speed isn't anything out of the ordinary. He's just showing lots of hustle and drive. Captain Thirdliner is Captain Effort and Captain Consistent. Captain Gettingitdoneinthegreasyareas.

Kudos to the conditioning coaches, Jets are basically rolling 3 lines...

You are suggesting that Olli is great at late game D zone draws and not great elsewhere? Not sure I buy that. I have seen him lose late game D zone draws before. Every faceoff guys has good and bad nights.

Is Noel putting him out there really a huge endorsement? He is one of the Jets top 2 centres. With Slater out, Little and Olli are it.

The pass first thing amuses me. He is passing a lot this year, but the media seems to be lost on how to classify him. I think it was Button that called him a "pass third" kind of player. He said he thinks shoot, then shoot, then pass (maybe). He definitely used to play that kind of game.

He does look to pass a lot not though, problem is many of his passes are off the mark. Personally I'd rather see him shoot and create rebounds.

1.Antro. Lst year turned me a 180 on him t the beginng of the season he ws on a tear and then wa injured.took a long time to get back to form then got injured again then took a long time to geet bck. This year he was injured in the lockout and has taken a while to get back but man oh man lastnight he was MONEY!!!!! hittting scoring defending. i think he had a complete game. He's been looking better and better over the last 8-10 games and is about to break out.

2. Wellwood. Same thing. while Kyle hasn't scored alot this year he has been good and generated chnces. What I like most is his play on the boards. for a little guy who doesn't hit he almost always seems to come off the boards with the puck on his stick!!!! Against bigger stronger players!!!!!! and he almost always gets the puck into the crease afterwards. If he and Antro get it going like they had it couple of times last year..... tingles.

3. Kane. Sooo much to love...Still leaves me cold. His individual play is amazing. his hitting and his skating and shooting wow wow wow. his puckplacement is horrible. his dump ins are often turned into odd man rushes the other way. he brings sooo much to the table and even I cannot deny his compete and his work ethic are incredible. I have turned 180 on him as well. I just wish he had been in the AHL for a year or two. I think he'd be a much better player right now if he had.

4. Ladd!!!!!! BEAST. Last year I said How lucky we were to have him and all the intagibles he brings. WOW he just keeps getting better. He is playing like a Captain. He is Playing Real OldTime Canadian Hockey. I wouldn't trade hime for anyone!!!!

How much better could Kane have been. Last year would have been his first year of AHL eligibility, but he was in the NHL and he had one of the best goal scoring 20 year old season in NHL history.

He is a beast as is and isn't lagging behind anybody in his draft class. Tavares, Hedman and Duchene are special players, but Kane is right in the conversation with them for best player in that draft class.

Everybody else is miles behind them.

I agree with the other 3 points though.

Come on Truck, Oli picked up his FIRST assist of the LAST 20 games (YES 20 games) he is a great player, probably the greatest player in the NHL or world for that matter, scoring, play making, faceoffs, S%, etc. have no relavance on how good a player is even us WEAK-MINDED know that!:shakehead (right KAPTAH)

I'm just saying that it was clutch. That's all, and some guys are a lot better at clutch than others. :dunno:

I don't think he's been nearly worth his 4.5, but the people thinking we should buy him out are nuts. I think we pay him too much for one more year and then pay him what he deserves after that. He likes it here, he's good in the room, and I'm not convinced that he's washed up just yet.

Interestingly he still hasn't recorded an assist at 5 on 5.

He has one on and empty net goal, one that he rang off the post and Kaner put in, and one primary assist on a Blake Wheeler PP goal. He surely hasn't been making many plays.

I don't want to get into the debate again, but I don't really believe in clutch.

I really don't get the buy out talk either. Not sure what benefit there is in paying him 3MM to not play. Plus you'd still have to play to replace him.

He really hasn't been great, but he still has some skills and I think (hope) he will turn the corner.

As of now, he isn't scoring, he is playing easy minutes and he is a defensive liability.

I really thought we'd get more out of him. He needs to start putting up some points.
