5th overall selection has a cap hit of about 3.2M to 3.4M already... 5.75M not that much more I guess

Most of that cap hit for the 5th pick is potential bonuses, though, most of which are next to impossible to hit. It would be a substantial increase in base salary, from ~1M/yr to 5.75M/yr. We can't afford that.

Well that's something I can see jr do, not sure how the money would work. I could see jr trading the pick outright for him if we had room.

do you really think so? i wouldn't object to a straight trade for the 5th, as a matter of fact i'd prefer it. but not for seguin imo.

Looking ahead.

No Lindholm on capgeek yet. Figure Brett Sutter and Bellemore at 600k. Murphy at 1.3m

I guess Rask or a UFA at forward will finish us out.

JR on retooling the D: As we speak we would potentially have three new guys on D (Sekera, Murphy, Bellemore) …we'll continue to listen, look

Cory Lavalette ‏@corylav 1m
JR: The urgency's not there as much, since we got Sekera.

I'd dress a roster of:

Tlusty/Staal/Semin
Rask/Staal/Ruutu
Skinner/Lindholm/Dwyer
Blanchard/Nash or Welsh/Westgarth
Bowman

Pitkanen/Faulk
Sekera/Gleason
Harrison/Murphy
Bellemore

Ward
Peters

Unless something else comes up.

Anyone know Osala's contract length in the KHL. His name randomly popped in my head. I know we've had this discussion of him being the ideal 4th liner for Muller (or maybe even better) several times in the past but have forgotten what the consensus was.

One more year IIRC.

FWIW, Gregory Hoffman was unable to reenter the draft due to Switzerland failing to sign the transfer agreement. He remains Carolina property. For how long I am unsure, but there was an insinuation that Carolina would attempt to sign him again after the upcoming season.

Now that is great news. I hope he's beefed up a little, but if I recall his game was about speed and edge....even with his slight frame.

Elite skater. No qualms about saying Elite either. He's one of the best skaters in the world for his age. On the advice of a friend I looked up some of his tape and it's ridiculous. He's raw, but with that particular skill being so coveted in the NHL it would shock me to not see him up here one day if the other parts of his game round into form.

If JR is willing to bring him back, I would say very high.

But I could also see JR being so butthurt over this that he refuses to give him a shot.

Drafting Lindholm makes it seem like rolling with 3 scoring lines is a very foreseeable scenario. I wouldn't mind seeing all three of the Euros signed to NHL contracts to experiment with.

Needless to say, they would rather stay in Europe than take the chance of being stuck in Charlotte on a two way contact.

Yes, Ruutu is making a gazillion dollars to center the third line with limited to no special teams ice time but I don't care. That's JR's fault. Maybe experiment with switching Lindholm and Ruutu

I am Kirk Muller and I approve this message.

Great article that touches on some of our discussions over the weekend. How we waste picks, and examples when we did it and the reasons. Jr should be held accountable overall no dubt, I've always hated how he does this.

I still stand behind the sekera trade overall, it was needed. Questionable decisions previously made put us in the position to be exasperated that such moves are needed.

Not qualified:

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip
No qualifying offers to Jenks, Nodl, Krueger, Pither, Sova and Muse.

Pither is somewhat of a surprise. Didn't he play fairly well?

Samson and Wallace also free agents:

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip
UFAs Jerome Samson and Tim Wallace will go into free agency, Rutherford said.
