How many Habs players will we see at the 2014 Olympics?

Poille said he thinks the world of Galchenyuk, so I wouldn't be surprised if he made USA. Sometimes the young guys make the difference and play great in short tournaments (like Doughty in 2010).

Andrighetto I think, if healthy, can crack the Swiss team.

Aside from that I don't expect any surprises. PK will be on Canada, despite the cries of Leafs fans. And really, they just don't want to cheer for a Hab.

Galchenyuk might tag along with the team for practices and experience but I don't see anyway he gets on the ice for team USA.

he'll be a 'taxi' squad player.

Just get comfortable with the environment and learn what it is all about this year. only was I see him on the ice, if there are significant injuries to their team.

pacioretty and kane are two high-end wingers, they really need some of those canadian center-men.

haha, prepare to make short term enemies out of markov , pacioretty and plekanec soon :P

what i REALLY cant wait for is for the rest of canada to take off their habs-hating goggles and ENJOY watching subban and price help lead us to greatness, its something else to have them on a team you can cheer for as opposed to just hating them for the jersey they wear :P

Price will be much like Luongo in 2010. "He's a really good goalie." win gold "HE IS A GOALIE GOD OMF." but unlike him I don't see Price losing in the finals game seven the year after and ruining that.

Or we lose and its his fault.

Galchenyuk could be the 13th forward for USA. Easier to bench a sophomore instead of a vet like Okposo or Legwand.

If PK makes it (which he absolutely should) I see it being his coming out party to the rest of the hockey world who still doubt him. Wouldn't surprise me if post Olympics, PK goes from being one of the most hated guys on HF, to one of the most praised.

I don't see that happening, he'll be playing 6-8 minutes a game as a PP specialist if he makes it because HC is run by fairly stubborn people who think Weber-Doughty-Pietrangelo are miles better defensively than Subban (when they aren't). Subban will be stuck as the 4th RD, unfortunately.

Pietrangelo 25 GP 4 G 14 A 18 PTS +8 4 PIM (a mortal LOCK, hes amazing)

Doughty 27 GP 5 G 8 A 13 PTS +3 26 PIM (absolutely shined for team canada 2010 , Gold at 20)

Weber 26 GP 7 G 5 A 12 PTS -7 20 PIM (definitely a force for team canada 2010, Gold)

Subban 27 GP 4 G 19 A 23 PTS +9 29 PIM (Norris Baby)

(for fun )

Letang 19 GP 5 G 5 A 10 PTS -4 8 PIM

will be definitely interresting to see what Team Canada does...

ill agree tho, theres no way you cant have Subban on the powerplay , all these guys are considered the number 1 offensive D on their teams and Subban blows them all away, what sucks is subbans also pretty decent defensively but wont get credit for that , especialy not over doughty, pietrange and shea...

will be very, very interresting to see how this plays out, i cant believe how happy and pissed i am at having so many right handed D for team canada (minus letang lol.)

Actually no Subban is not just as good defensively as Weber or Pietrangelo.

lol no, i reread it and its true, you're right about that, but subbans not "non-existent" in the defensive departement..
Who said he's non existent. But he's still not as good defensively, doesn't make him bad.

Subban and Markov were so smooth in that last Leafs game - he's fine defensively will only get better .

the instincts of a great defenseman just take longer to develop

The question is whether his defensive shortcomings compared to these three are completely compensated by his relatively better offensive contribution. It's reasonable to think that it doesn't balance out.

It would still be pretty stupid not to pick him as a 7th Dman though. When you need to score a goal, Subban is the way to go.

The question can also be whether the offensive shortcomings of the other three compared to Subban are completely compensated by their relatively better defensive contributions? People act like the other defensemen of team Canada are completely devoid of offensive abilities. Duncan Keith has more points than Subban, Pietrangelo is 4 points behind Subban, Shea Weber has had seasons of 23, 19, and 16 goals (twice). So let's not act as if only Subban can bring the offense to.

Despite his bad start after being injured, I find Letang is pretty underrated defensively. But if he or Boyle make this team over Subban... management better hope they win is all I'm saying. I think it would be a big mistake to leave him off the squad in favor of either of those guys.

I think Subban is primed to make a huge splash at the Olympics and not only win gold, but show the whole world why us Habs fans believe he's a franchise player and dare I say it, potential generational talent.

As for the people saying Weber, Pietrangelo, Keith et al are no slouches compared to PK. Fair enough, but PK is no slouch compared to them defensively either. I also think people quickly forget that not too long ago Shattenkirk was outplaying Pietrangelo, and Weber was unable to find his game without Suter, and even at one point Chicago fans were saying Seabrook was actually the one looking good.

That isn't to say these aren't all great players, but the three of them bring essentially the same thing to the table. Fairly good offense with superb defense. Why wouldn't you take the guy who has dynamic offense and fairly good defense, who is just 24 years old? It makes no sense. It would be like leaving Scott Niedermayer off the team.

I think it will cost us the gold if they leave PK off this team. He will thrive in this situation.

Second time I've read this in less than 24 hours. Keith has one more point in one more game played than Subban, and a whopping one goal, so let's not act as if Keith is a much superior offensive player ;)
