I see a lot of people selecting Galchenyuk to team U.S.A. :shakehead

There are so many forwards that are ahead of him on the U.S. depth charts:

Kane, Parise, Ryan, Kessel, Backes, Pavelski, Oshi, Pominville, Kesler, Statsny, JVR, Wheeler, Brown, Patch, Stepan, Callahan, Dubinski, Okposo, Legwand.

You guys keep forgetting that he's only 19.

The ideas of a medal game showdown between Price and Halak or between Price and Budaj are both tempting. Hope it happen.

I'm just crossing my fingers nobody on the Habs get hurt during the tournament. Would be nice to see Saku+Teemu win gold medal too.

Sorry, NO it wouldn't
When it comes to international games Canada all the way!
Koivu and any other scrub can get in line for the silver

Also, Canada's grouping seems to be an easier path to the gold medal.

I'm surprised Denmark doesn'T have a team, there are quite a few skilled players in the NHL from there now.

They had to go through a pre-selection tournament to get there and lost because all of their best players were playing in the NHL.

Isn't it the same for us as well? And the Russians?

Actually, it's pretty weird that teams gets qualified based on players that probably won't make the team

According to the threads going on in the international boards, Subban was certainly not a lock for team Canada, but things are slowly going in the right direction!

I'm quite sure Emelin is a lock for Russia, but they may want to showcase some of their KHL guys. On the other hand the tournament is in Russia, so they have to go with the best of the best. 2010 was embarassing for them.

And if Galchenyuk makes it for USA, the Habs would have two players on each of CAN/USA/RUS. Not bad!

It would be the same for us if we did poorly enough in 2010 and lost in the relegation round.

edit: nevermind, apparently the top 9 teams in the IIHF world rankings received automatic berths, with teams 9-30 playing in a tournament for the last three spots. I've been playing too much EHM :P

Emelin is way more of a lock than a long-shot....

I think the reason he wasn't considered a lock was because of his injury and nobody was sure if he would come back in olympic shape, but he came back and seemed to not miss a step so his chances are probably very good, assuming that Russia doesn't use the olympics as a KHL marketing tool (which is entirely probable considering who owns the KHL)

Would Gallagher be remotely considered for team Canada? His tireless efforts, ability to stand in front of the next has to be appealing to Yzerman and those picking players.

Locks:
Longshots: Gally (too early), Desharnais (too deep at center in Canada, but we never know). Gionta ( USA is very deep at wingers, prefer size and already many good defensive forwards in Callahan, Backes, Brown, Parise and Kesler.

Are...are you kidding?

Lol what ? Emelin will probably be on the first pairing with Markov ..

Do you think Emelin can outplay Kulikov, Gokhorov or Nikulin (the KHL awards two Norris trophies, called Golden Helmets and the last two are the players who won these helmets last)? Along with Markov, these three are likely ahead of Emelin at this point.

But Markov is a #1 on Team Russia.
