Malone & Kronwall barely got dirty looks from the Leafs when they hit Dermott & Matthews from behind into the boards, so I don't expect anyone on the team to even make eye contact with Chara.
So then I guess Chara Will just go around the ice intimidating them if you score I will pound your could be over quick

We are not beating Boston, it is just not happening. I know we added skill since last year, but when you look at guys like Matt Martin & Leo in Long Island, they have been very effective for the most part, but were dog shit here. Our systems are rotten, and it seems to not benefit most players true strength.

Boston will pound the piss out of us over and over and over in our own end, of D will be run, our forwards will get pounded, and they play a fantastic system. The quicker we come to terms with not getting past the 1st round, the easier it is on the nerves.

UNLESS our players change and turn it up, play heavy, and Babcock makes changes. If these things happen we can win.

But the sample size says no, especially the last 1.5 months.

Leafs Home Board
Last year in the playoffs the Bruins recorded wins of 7-3, 5-1 and 7-4.

What is the hope this year that Leafs with their new offense can turn those frowns upside down with wins of 8-7, 6-5 and 8-7?

This past week should have taught us that if you give 5 or more goals its difficult to win consistently even against non playoff teams.

Boston is 3rd best in the NHL in goals against so I don't like our chances of scoring 5+ goals regularly, so we had better get our defensive game and goaltending in order and quick, or history is about to repeat itself sadly..

The only way we beat Boston is if they completely overlook us anticipating a Tampa matchup in round 2, and if Anderson steals a few games.

the way to beat boston. I believe Carolina Hurricanes used this strategy a few years back when they played the bruins and beat them in a game 7 series that
went to overtime in game 7 I believe.
there strategy came out afterwards :
they specifically dumped pucks in behind the bruins D namely there slow of foot d and it gave them the appearance that they were a much faster team.
They targeted corners where pucks where dumped in and forwards new where pucks were going to be placed and raced to those areas.
It gave the illusion that there speed was giving the bruins d fits but it was all game planning strategy.

If the Leafs get hot at the right time then the Bruins won't stand a chance. We haven't seen all the top players click in at the same time since before Willie got signed. If Matthews and Nylander get hot at the same time as the Marner line, and if Kadri can chip in as the checking line center with the 4th line doing their thing, then Boston will just get too overwhelmed. Bergeron can't play 60 minutes a night, and even if he could he can only hold off Tavares and Matthews for so long. Combine this with the highest scoring blue line in the league and an actually Steady Freddy, and Toronto suddenly becomes a contender.

It's a tall order, but optimistic fans aren't necessarily dumb ones.

Very concerning....

'Toronto is now minus-10 against teams currently in NHL playoff position, with a record of 17-18-1. (They are plus-50 versus those outside, 26-7-4.) '

Although this probably is true for a lot of teams.

it's intentionally misleading, is what it is. because there are some teams in "playoff position" in the west who are actually worse than teams outside of playoff position in the east.

if we actually want to look at how the leafs have done against quality of opponent....

(removing the Leafs from the ranks):

Vs 01-10: 12-11-0, 86pt pace, -.22gdiff
Vs 11-20: 13-9-2, 96pt pace, +.29gdiff
Vs 21-30: 20-5-3, 126pt pace, +1.46gdiff

(Vs 01-05: 7-6-0, 88pt pace, -.08gdiff)

All of the Leafs stars can get hot but as soon as Boston starts playing dirty and hitting them from behind the leafs will turtle and roll over. No one on the team is tough and has the balls to step up when a star player gets run.
Just give Matthews a wooden gun and a rape whistle and hope the refs call a penalty once in a while.
The Bruins will be up 2-0 after the first 2 games in Boston and Toronto will be lucky to win one at home.
Boston has a good chance of beating Tampa imo.

What are Tavares career numbers versus the Bruins looking like? Regular season/playoffs?

Tavares has never played Boston in the playoffs.
Regular season: 34 GP, 14G, 27Pts
This year against the Bruins 4GP 1G 2Pts
Boston will probably match Chara against Tavares' line (last year it was Matthews' line). Last year no star could create anything at all against Chara in the playoffs (Matthews, Marner, Kucherov, Stamkos)
This year 5v5 against Chara: 25:42 0GF, 1GA, 31% SF%

There is nothing any other team in the NHL can do either. I am all for playing tough (i did). But no one can f*ck with Chara. No one. So there is ZERO point is acting tough when you don't have ability to take care of business. You gotta hope for the refs in this one.
And Boston will get eliminated by Tampa again. Tampa's defense is just too big and strong. Bruins could not get fore check and cycle game going last year. And they won't this year either.

Thanks.

Decent regular season numbers but Chara/McAvoy will only be able to match one of Tavares/Matthews line so we've definitely got that going for us.

We play with skill and speed, and coming at tthem in waves, rolling 3 talented lines out (even 4 if you want to include Moore Petan Brown as a 4th line) and forcing them to match us.
