Umm, he literally smiled as he said it! That generally means it was a joke or he was kidding! Mind boggling how you take every opportunity to throw mud at Larkin, but AA gets a complete free pass for everything. Nothing Larkin said, makes him a bad leader or a bad teammate or any bull**** like that! This whole thing is a nothing burger of enormous proportions and only in this day and age, is it turned into some super serious, "oh man, he shouldn't be captain and I hate him, he is poopy!" kind of situation!

I bet that if you interviewed every player in Detroit's locker-room, over 75% of them would say Dylan is the team leader.
Is that what you did? How do you know this? And down to a percentage?

Wasn't joking like I said!

Well he was joking. You do understand you can make a joke about the truth, right?
His joke was considered in poor taste by the media so he's apologizing for it.
Go watch the clip, it's clear as day he was joking. His joke was taken as disrespectful instead of humorous like he intended it to be.

joking
/ˈjōkiNG/

  1. humorous or flippant.
hu·mor·ous
/ˈ(h)yo͞omərəs/
adjective

  1. causing lighthearted laughter and amusement; comic.

flip·pant

Hot take: I support publicly shaming people who use the phrase, "Hot take", for takes that are not even lukewarm.

Instead of apologizing for a fricking joke, he should've asked her "do you wish you had done your job instead of quoting me out of context for clickbait purposes?" And when can we expect Brian Burke's apology for blowing this way out of proportion due to his own lack of reading comprehension?

Right.

So much ado about absolutely nothing.

times have changed . in the old days there wasnt satelite tv with every game live or recorded 24/7/365 , and computers / the internet so fans didnt know much about the allstars and getting to see them at the allstar game was huge because if they werent on your team you didnt know much about them . now adays that buzz is way gone . plus a clown of a commisioner is dreaming up idiotic events at the game . mean while these players are run into the ground 100 games a year and could use a mid season break . my solution is a mid season break during which theres a big junior even in a different nhl city each year where all the nhl media and ex players gather to cover games putting the spot light on the kids . its just teams regularly scheduled games played in this city and covered by all the big nhl media with old time greats like gretz , lidstrom , lemuix , etc showing up to make it a huge event . then post season theres an allstar presentation eventwhere the allsdtars gather in toronto . hosted by the best media guy today james duthie and tsn crew , mckenzie-ferraro-miller-odog-cuthbert-lebrun . the players wear their uni and one at a time their seasons highlites are shown on the big screen over rink with the tsn crew describing them , then after like a 10 minute highlites the player skates out on rink and does a lap to a table where hes presented an allstar medallion by a huge older retired alltime great such as gretzky . when the players are taking their lap have a small group of kid players , about age 10 , skating with them . and any body criticizing the heart n soul larkin over this is wrong , nobody plays the game with any more of their heart into it and he should be respected for that and seen as a leader !

He never said he was joking. You can quote bs dictionary definitions all you want. Watch the video, he apologized because he was wrong...

That's not humor. That's a terrible "joke". Just like yours was....

No, mine wasn’t a joke. It was just a statement. If Larkin says something in a joking manner that isn’t your taste, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a joke, it means that you don’t share his sense of humor. That his joke wasn’t received well. And when people make poor jokes, jokes that aren’t received well, or jokes that were made in the wrong place or time, generally they apologize for it to save face.

You can choose to be critical of Larkin because of how he answered the question, but it doesn’t make him a bad person or leader as you like to keep insinuating.

So this entire thing is why hockey players are some of the most dry toast, boring sports personalities in the damn world. You show a shred of personality, make a joke, and it's an insult to the damn hockey gods and every Viagra-poppin' boomer is out for their blood sacrifice.

Larkin has been better over the last 20 or so games for me.

I still want more, really still believe in him. We need to get him more help, he isn't the problem.

He’s beginning to look more like himself for sure. Really nice to see.

I am a bit concerned about him tho. The things he is saying this year are not what we have been accustomed to hearing out of him. From the all star game quote to most recently referring to himself as a 55 point player...

I miss the Larkin who wanted to be the best player in the league. I know that’s probably still in him but his demeanor is noticeably different this year. Probably due to the losing atmosphere.

The way that Freep article reads is that Larkin made his joke (which was def a joke) and in the days following, Yzerman had a talk with him and said "even if you think that, you can't say it." That apology is as much a non-apology as it can get. It's more "hey, I shouldn't have said it, but I did, so I'm shut up the old greybeards by apologizing for offending them".

Sounds like he's commenting more specifically as wanting to play the right way and prioritize being a complete player before he worries about the points that he puts up personally. This reads more like "my stats don't matter if I'm not doing what is necessary to help the team in every possible way."

This is not a quote that should be viewed in a negative context imo. Team > Me

Yeah, if not Yzerman, someone in the higher ups definitely told him to apologize, I have no doubt about that. All in all, it is still such a nothing burger of a comment and sad that any negativity comes from it at all.

Ya that makes sense.

It’s hard to not view everything in a negative context right now lol. Still love Larks and can’t wait for him to wear the C.
