I'm a big fan of Holland... but I'd also like to see him on RW for a while. I think he could be better suited for that role. He's also really good on the PK.

I would personally like to see Matthias play center instead of Holland.

Winnik - Matthias - Holland would be a great third line. Or use JVR instead of Winnik and have it be a second line.

Hopefully he just remembers what he needs to do to be successful. So many Leaf kids have little blips of success and then forget why they're in the league altogether.

he might be better suited as a winger

I've never been one to get caught up in set positions. Maybe he'll be a good 3rd line centre, maybe he would be a 2nd liner as a winger. Whatever suits the coach suits me, but I do think he plays more aggressive as a winger. He's a pretty good goal scorer & if he has to think less about both the left & right sides of the ice he might be better at taking advantage of his size & strengths.

Like i've been saying for a long time now - Holland is a winger, not a center. He'll be a fine winger in this league for a while. good chance he'll be a top 6 winger no less.

Holland is not like an overwhelming concern. The footprint that he will leave will be a virtually invisible one.

Holland .. 18 games 4 goals 5 assists 9 points [TOI/g 12:22]

Kadri .... 23 games 2 goals 6 assists 8 points [TOI/g 18:38]

Holland has seemed to pull himself out of the coaches doghouse and started producing statistically.

Maybe he'll be one of the insulators they keep, as he was one they trusted enough to talk to the prospect last summer. He isn't young, he'll be 25 in January, but he does seem to grow on people.

On a 41 point pace.

Likely to be back on a cheap deal. He's a RFA again and probably won't command much.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded at the dead line though. A team that is cap strapped would love someone like him for scoring depth. He could increase the value of a package to get something with more potential.

Either way, like you said, not going to matter much.

Holland or Spaling ?

Leafs might keep one as their 3rd line centre next year.

While Babcock seems to like Spaling in a checking role, statistically Holland is more effective and contributes more in that respect..

Time will tell but he has said, and I'm paraphrasing, that he thought he was owed a spot on the roster but he now realizes that he needs to earn his spot every game. Thus far he still remembers the lesson. Let's hope it remains with him as long as he's with the leafs.
Btw I'm sure Babcock will remind him if he forgets!

Holland's good play of late has been on the wing .. Hard to say he's a centre option until he can prove to be effective there.

I've been advocating trying him out on the wing for awhile and I'm glad to see he's picked it up there. Would really be interesting to see him on Kadri's wing.

Holland only has 3 points at even strength so right now his offense is as a PP specialist.

I think he will have a short term roll with the team at a minimum. he is likeable and works hard and has a minimal cap hit.

I guess Holland should start getting more PP time then, he's only played 36:45 mins of PP & has 6 pts versus Kadri's 59:07 mins of PP with 3 pts.

But as you mentioned, Holland only has 3 points during 183:08 mins of even strength play versus Kadri's 5 points in 367:48 mins of even strength play.

Holland's staying with the leafs will depend on his next contract, he is currently 0.775 mill cap hit and even if earning 1.25 to 1.50 mill, as an RFA, he would be a bargain on a 1 year deal.

I doubt he will be traded, as he now has on his resume, being a winger/center position player and if he continues with his hot play, they may decide to sign him to a 3-5 year deal.
