I would be interested in a different strategy. If you get to the 3th round and beyond and the Oilers aren't excited about drafting anyone in that range then i would trade the pick for 2018 & 2019 picks.

Extra picks next year and beyond will be valuable as you can trade them for immediate help at the deadline without interrupting the inflow of prospects that keeps the whole thing sustainable in the long run.

If you look at Washington for example, they have traded so many picks over the years that they won't be able to sustain their success over the past view few seasons going forward. Especially now since a good portion of that hockey team is moving on to different teams via free agency.

I'd rather have Chia add more bullets in the 2018/2019 chamber going forward than having a few extra lottery ticket selections this year. I also like this strategy because Chia seems to do a good job recruiting NCAA talent to compete for jobs at the NHL & AHL level. I'm not as concerned with finding diamonds in the rough in the later rounds of the draft.

That's pretty smart actually. If we're thinking we're going to be a consistent playoff team. Having additional assets available to move at the deadline would be a considerable bonus.

I had to triple check and make sure he wasn't already picked haha. I have him as a mid-late 2nd personally so I'm pretty damn thrilled to get him here.

Another +1 for the Minulin pick. Like the guy alot, can't see why he's not getting more written about him.

This whole round has been a kick in the plums. I'll elaborate more when Im up to pick again.

Edmonton selects goaltender Maxim Zhukov.

Really impressed me at the World Juniors and I think he's one of the best goalies available in the draft.

LOL. He was my top player available for my pick, but really wanted a forward with this pick.

Thanks :) I have a few guys I'd be happy with at 84, so we'll see what Mozes does.

Couldn't pass up Zhukov. He's the real deal and would give us a really strong goaltending pipeline in the first time in forever.

Edmonton selects right shot defenceman Reilly Walsh from the USHL's Chicago Steel.

Like his skating and offensive instincts quite a bit. Long term prospect but a lot of very good tools. Usually goes 2nd round in most mocks I've seen.

22: C/RW Kailer Yamamoto
82: G Maxim Zhukov
84: RHD Reilly Walsh

Very nice pick. Underrated player with offensive upside. He was on my radar for Dallas' 3rd but I decided to go with Safin.

Nice picks with Chekhovich and Zetterlund. Was hoping one of them would slip to the 4th. I'd be happy if the Oil picked either of those guys in the third though, that's the kind of high upside picks I'm hoping for this year.

Nice picks. I like Zhukov a lot myself and Walsh is someone I've been intrigued about for a long time. Heard good things about him. Not sure I'd take him in the 3rd, would probably wait until the 4th or 5th round. Either way not a bad bet to make. Rather go with Walsh than a Niemeläinen/Cairns type in the 3rd round. Long-term prospect and he'll be joining John Marino at Harvard next year most likely, although a full year in the USHL would probably not hurt him. Just based off his skillset with his offensive ability and skating it seems like he could be a Brandon Montour type. Going to be interesting to follow his development.

Otherwise I like Studnicka in the 3rd for the Oilers. Right-handed C with good size and very strong two-way player. There's also a couple of russian import defenders that interest me, as well as two small but skilled forwards in the CHL that are still available here but might be more appropriate to pick in the 4th round.

Yeah, pretty happy with my draft so far. I think/hope Schnarr will be around when the Oilers pick, he's who I actually wanted at 82. There are a few forwards I like that should be available in later rounds. Liked Studnicka a lot but I firmly believe you can never have too many good defencemen.

Just realized Detroit has four 3rd round picks. That's crazy. Wonder what they're gonna do with them all, lol. Also like Philly's three straight picks in the 4th. That's pretty cool.
