We crushed that first round boys. Light speed.

Little bit of house keeping, RaabHart will be drafting for Chicago.

On to the next round!

Yeah, that was fast. Great pace so far :)

Minor point for the 2nd round, I believe Toronto owns Washington's 2nd (traded to TOR in the Brooks Laich deal)

Two of my favorite guys still left on the board. I'd be ecstatic if the Oilers ended up with either guy in june. I'm pretty sure HeavyMcHitter97 is going to take one of them here but we'll see ;)

I was so torn between DeBrincat and [another player]. In the end I couldn't say no to two 50 goal seasons.

Yeah, DeBrincat was one of three players I had in my "tier 1" of players I was hoping to fall to my 2nd round pick. I'm still doubtful if I can get any of the other two guys but there's many good prospects available early in the 2nd so I have some hope that they'll fall.

There goes one of my guys. Great pick, surprised you took Mete over him though ;)

I really like Mete. I wanted to make sure I grabbed him with one of these two picks.

I had two smaller OHL forwards in mind as well as Laberge for this pick. Went with Laberge cause I like his mix of size and skill.

I'll be making my pick shortly but if iirc you aren't a big fan of his but I could be wrong ;)

No love for the 6'5" RH center on the board?

Some love yes but he's almost a too good to be true player that gets most of his points on the PP. Scouts are worried because of this random jump in production but he could turn out to make people look silly.

Reserving judgement on HH97's pick here, but with what's left on the board, I think I'd be comfortable moving this pick for Shaw.

The Edmonton Oilers are pleased to select, from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, defenseman Kale Clague!

Don't underestimate this kid or this pick. He is a high end offensive defender that is capable in his own end too. He was expected to be a top 15 pick at the start of the year but he had an incredibly slow start to the season (as did many of the Wheat Kings). People were disappointed with his 43 points this year but they need to remember that it was essentially his first season at the junior level and also remember that he played lower on the depth chart behind Erkamps (a dominant overrager) and Provorov (the best dman in junior hockey). Next season these 2 will not be on the team and Clague will be the #1 in Brandon.

Ive watched him since he first stepped into Bantam at 12 years old and he's destroyed every league he's played in since then (including setting some records along the way). His play in the playoffs is exactly the Clague that I know and is not just a flash in the pan.

Anyways rant over, Vancouver has been notified.

Definitely like the value you got on the pick. Not what we need for our prospect pool, but made the best of the situation.

Nice pick. When you said it was a guy I didn't like I was sure it was a different WHL prospect but this one I'm quite okay with. Clague has really upped his game since the Top Prospects game and is finally starting to realize his potential. I'm significantly higher on him now than I was 3 months ago. I've always liked him or his tools rather but without the production being there it's hard to justify taking a guy like him high in the draft. Luckily the offense seems to be coming through now. At this point he is actually one of the guys I'm hoping we take with the 2nd round pick, assuming there isn't a quality 1st round guy falling. I have him ranked exactly at #32 too.

He's not what we need in terms of being another LHD but what he brings outside of that in terms of his offense and puck-moving abilities is much of what we need. I see his potential as a rock solid #4D in the Ryan Ellis mold.

Never draft for need especially outside the 1st. The chances of 2nd-7th rounders making the NHL are slim so pick the best player. We lack quality prospects in all areas so we essentially need every position. When and if these prospects make it, our needs could be completely different and we may not need any RHD.

A friend of mine is one of the top scouts for the Ducks. He told me they never draft for need and their GM, Bob Murray never questions or goes against the scouts. If they told him to take all dmen in the draft then he would do that. Most of the high end teams draft the exact same way :)

Yep I agree with this. He's going to surprise a lot of people next season if he goes in the 2nd round this year.

You're right, he's an LD but of an offensive mold. He's being deployed at RD these playoffs though, or at least he played exclusively the right side in Game 4 vs. the Oil Kings.

Yep, I'm totally fine with that pick. I'm personally hoping Benson or DeBrincat are there at 32 but might not be likely given our mock here.

I caused a bit of a delay.

I thought the my next pick was the 2nd rounder. I was PM'd to make the 2nd Winnipeg 1st rounder and just thought; "yeah this guy has no idea whats going on". I logged on several hours later to find people were waiting on me to make that pick from the Ladd trade.

"....Oh....Right"

Then I picked a guy who was taken 10th overall or something.

MacTavish would be proud. ;)
