Barrasso was pretty incredible for a stretch, but its the hardware that probably got him in

Vernon I see more as a compiler.
Barrasso is worthy.

Vernon is MAF without the late-career surge - extremely high peaks, extremely low troughs. One year could be the main reason you won a series, the next year the main reason you lost a series. One person thinks he's clutch, another thinks he's a choker, and both are right.

Watch both play their entire careers.

Turgeon was a little more than compiler. Not exactly fair to say.

But never did I think, Turgeon was better, or more dynamic than Mogilny.

Add in the trailblazing aspect, and Mogilny should've been in years ago.

Asinine and discriminatory.

Seriously - what the actual f*** does a guy who risked his personal safety to flee socialism and make a career here playing hockey have to do with the present day dictator and his destructive campaign.

Totally right. Even regardless of the player being truly a Soviet defector or just came over after 1990.
They could have used this as a way of showing how hockey (sports in general) can overcome differences, but no.

edit: I looked it up, we're talking about Mogilny?! Yeah, he was a real defector and god damn what a hockey player. Quite a travesty.

------

Congrats Hank, sry for your heart, which literally broke for or because of this team.

In baseball and hockey, I'm a "big hall" guy and never mind when a lot of marginal guys being inducted. But honestly, Turgeon never passed my eye-ball test (as well as any other test) as a HOFer. Mogilny should be in. Barasso, fine. Vernon...marginal at best but OK.

After the King, seems like the voters were scraping the bottom of the barrel to find three others. Vernon is a total headscratcher. Mogilny should be in but Russia. The candidates get better again starting next year.

You know, a lot of people around the world don't particularly like us or the US president at the time, and that goes for presidents on both sides of the aisle.

It would feel pretty crummy if we were excluded from things or discriminated against for whatever our country got involved in.

When I think about it that way, I really feel bad for the way Russian players have been treated in response to this whole thing.

Congrats and well deserved! In retrospect, did we really need to buy him out? How screwed was the cap that one year?
It's water under the bridge by now. Hank wouldn't have played due to his medical condition anyway.

I'm just glad he's a first ballot hall of famer. He deserved it and so much more.

Other than the lack of cup, he probably has the best long term career of any Ranger I've seen, barring Leetch. And even then, you could make a case that Hank meant just as much to the organization.

He sets the bar for excellence, and despite a lot of good things happening since, the team has totally lacked any true identity after the Hank years.

He was the emotional leader and heart of the NY Rangers for 15 years. Literally THE guy. And he fully embraced his role as the face of the franchise and thrived under that microscope. He loved that pressure.

Once again, Brind'Amour/Mogilny/CuJo get shafted. Heck, put Mozyakin in. He's the most successful non-NHLer in hockey history, IMO. HHoF voters are poop. Expand the voter pool and make ballots public.

But Lundqvist getting in was always a matter of when, not if. Great to see, though it is funny seeing him get in with 2 other goalies lol.

One of the wild things about Hank is that at the peak of his powers (2009-2016) you could watch him get set to take his first shot in warmups, and if he seemed like his stance was lower than usual (say by an inch or so) you would just say “oh cool, we won!……..and he hadn’t even made a save yet.

It’s eerie, it’s hard to explain - but you just knew.

If only he knew this we'd win every game.

Congrats to Hank . HOF messes stuff up but almost impossible not to get this one right . 7 consecutive years with a save percentage of .920 or better. A little disappointing that head scratching choices of Barrasso and Vernon are in the same year.

Meh, Hank is getting in on his first year of eligibility - Barasso has been eligible for 17 years and Vernon has been eligible for 18 years. Hank is clearly a step above and the headliner by far.

It's amazing that in the time you're watching hockey, you never can tell how it's going to play out over the long haul. The Rangers were never good as a kid for me, the dark ages were just shuffling in, but you still love the team and hope things go in the right direction.

For 15 years, that hope was Henrik Lundqvist. You think back to 2005 and this team and franchise had no direction, was predicted to finish dead last until Hank took the nets. He never let it go.

It bothers me and probably many others that we never got to send him off on the ice as a player. The last time seeing him play in person was a game against Dallas and he got pulled halfway through. His last pro game was in an empty arena. You rarely get to see your heroes go out on top.

I will always remember heading to MSG and just knowing you've got a shot to see a win because #30 was between the pipes. It was the first jersey I wanted.

All the saves, all the wins and shutouts, all the emotional highs, and unfortunately all the end of seasons falling short, but in the end you always came back and knew that as long as #30 was out there, you could come back in October and hope.

We've gotten to celebrate a jersey retirement and we'll get one more night in Toronto. Thank you Hank for giving everything possible. For giving a city hope. For giving the fans a reason to believe.

Not voting in a guy who risked his life to get out of Russia, because you hate Russia, is such ass backwards logic.

There's no way Vernon, Turgeon or Barrasso were more deserving than Mogilny.
