How long do people think proper rebuilds take? You cant get an entirely new championship worthy core in 2 or 3 years and If you do manage it it usually takes that core a few years to develop.

They might miss the playoffs for the 8th year in a row... it's starting to be enough time. However to Yzerman's defense, he didn't start with a lot of wealth to sell for futures.

In comparison, Sens will miss for the 7th year in a row and Dorion started with Karlsson, Stone, Duchene (cost : Turris + 4th OA + Bowers), Brassard (cost : Zibanejad + 2nd), Pageau, Dzingel, Hoffman, Ceci... They were all in their prime, Brassard was the oldest at 30 y/o

Not only that but Dorion already had in the prospect pool Thomas Chabot, Drake Batherson, Alex Formenton, Nick Paul, Colin White, etc, etc. Then, the first pick of the rebuild was Brady Tkachuk 4th OA in 2018

Wings fans are complaining about 2-3 guys that are overpaid? lol that wouldn't even be 5% of the damage Dorion has done.

Be thankful, Yzerman could do nothing and he'd still be 10 times better than Dorion.

Why? The criticism was he was signing mediocre players to overpays which is a good way to end up not good enough to compete but not bad enough to get elite players. They’re currently sitting out of the playoffs, but also not even getting a top 15 pick. Thats basically exactly where you don’t want to be.

The criticism is for him signing a backup goalie at 4.75 per, #5 dman at 4.75 per, #6/7 dman at 3.4 per, etc. Not that it’s taking too long. If you’re going to do that, at least sign them to 1 year deals so you don’t have bad contracts on the books for years

Pretty sure they're saying it deserves a bump because Detroit has lost 6? 7? in a row surrounding the trade deadline, and there were calls for Yzerman as GMOTY earlier, but the Wings are on pace to miss the playoffs again.

I'm excited to see what Edvinsson, Sandin-Pelikka, Danielson, Kasper and Cossa will add to this team over the next few years.

Instead of wasting cap space on average to below average players, they should have weaponized the cap space like Montreal did aggressively to get assets, and flip those for younger players like Dach and Newhook. Montreal's management, as an objective observer, has shown to be significantly better then Detroit's IMO. That's why Yzerman is so overrated.

Doesn’t change my mind. I always thought he was an average to slightly above average GM. Drafting has been hit and miss and he’s yet to get a franchise type forward. Some of his signings have been really suspect. Cap space is an asset that can be weaponized but he’s wasted it.

Drafting Kucherov and Point outside of the first round is basically responsible for 100% of his rep.
