Not sure why people think this signing makes us worse. He's at least as good as Tangradi/Thorburn/Peluso, just with a different bag of tricks. You've got to have depth.

Or lack of depth in our case.

Who said it makes us worse? The problem is that it doesn't make us better. It makes us the same as last year...perhaps I'm mistaken but I'm pretty sure the goal is not just to avoid getting worse. It's to actually try and improve the team.

It makes us better because if we have a few injured wingers we can put in Hali and the drop off will be less than it otherwise would be. Not much of an improvement but nothing to get all whiney about.

The Jets are a young team. They don't need a rebuild, they need more games under the belts of their young stars. The majority of the roster is on the upswing and none of the players are in decline.

Players peak at 25 or 26 on average.

Ladd, Little, Wheeler, Frolik, Byfuglien and Enstrom are all at that age or older. It shouldn't surprise anyone to see some decline there.

Ha ha...this is the second signing this year that made me say "Aw, ****!" when it popped up on my NHL App alerts.

Yeah it's a 2-way deal - though he was on a 2-way last year as well, wasn't he?

I hope Chevy signed him just to create more competition at TC. Don't be afraid to waive him or someone else if they don't deserve a spot on the team, Cheveldayoff.

I have no problem with a one-year two-way deal. Yes, it sucks that were are keeping a non-playoff team together. However, in a season or two, our own guys (Petan, Lowry, Kosmo, Lipon) should be filling these roles when the contracts of Hali, Slater, Peluso, Tangradi, and Ellerby are up.

That's just super! :thumbu:

This deal, in combination with a bunch of other things that have happened recently and over the summer - it all smells like stuff that is happening because none of the actual things Chevy wanted to do got done. It's all "well, this, that and the other things didn't pan out so I guess we'll do this, this and this instead."

Halischuk has similar numbers as Tanner Glass...

Out of the 529 players to play 750+ mins over the last 3 seasons, Halischuk is 522nd in Corsi% for score close minutes.

A lot of Jets terrible bottom end keeps getting re-signed or at least was given an offer:
523rd: Tanner Glass
522nd: Matt Halischuk
518th: Chris Thorburn
513th: Jim Slater*
392nd: Olli Jokinen
373rd: Mark Stuart

*Slater plays a defensive zone specialist role, which kind of makes it impossible to have a good Corsi%. You either get trapped in your own zone and get a bunch of minuses or you get the puck out and head over for a change (ie: no possible pluses). dCorsi shows that Slater's Corsi is actually decent relative to his usage... unlike the other guys here.
