To show class and sportsmanship? :naughty:

Don't know what was said at timeout. Different rules in international hockey, perhaps reminding them of some of the rules to makes sure of no penalties that could lead to missing the next game? Perhaps reminding them to finish hard and with classs? Who knows..... what did you overhear while you were on the bench?

The Americans taunted the Canadian bench in Ottawa and the only thing that happened was the Canadians taunting back the American bench when they scored. It was like so badass.

Sorry to ruin your macho fantasy.

Actually what happened was the Americans got stomped by doing something really stupid like taunting.

What Friberg did was classless. Yes he was having fun but you don't show up other teams.

People wonder why guys get killed on the ice sometimes. Well it is because some players have long memories

I disagree. Just because "your" team isn't playing doesn't mean you can't boo the team you don't want to win at a game.

Yankee fans would never cheer for the Red Sox and would show it vehemently if they were at a game between the Red Sox and any team.

Yes I'm aware there's no such thing as "free" health care.

My thinking too.For example:most canadian fans cheered for the Swiss against Sweden. However when they face Russia, those same fans (myself included) will being cheering for Sweden.

IMHO Underdogs and playoff positioning will determine who most canadians cheer for.

Another thing, every time the WJC is held in Canada, the fans seem to adopt one of the "underdog" teams as their own.Don't think there's any doubt that this years chosen is the Swiss. So some fans will be very protective of their newly adopted sons and take undue affront at any perceived insult, leading to overreaction on all sides.
Happens every year.

"We would have liked three points, but Switzerland played a great game," said Max Friberg, who must today be considered as a fifth-round steal by the Anaheim Ducks in the last NHL draft. "They deserved the point for their effort."

"The celebration was not meant against the other team," said Friberg. "I was just so happy but there were no other teammates to celebrate with."

Let´s all calm down and remember that he is just a kid. No point in making him a monster. He isn´t.

Was a entertaining game, but the boys needs discipline :yashin:

And a big lol at some of the crying in here, i remember when the canadians beat the swiss last year the audience was chanting "WE WANT USA" with those poor swiss still on the ice, now that was classless and it makes friberg pale in comparison.

He isn't even looking at the Swiss bench, just at his own bench and his teammates. Some people are way too uptight about stuff like this :shakehead

Well at least he didn't start his attempt with a spin move, such a heinous crime in some people's eyes.

If that happened, what would the Canadian players do? Log on to HFboards and join the crowd of whiners?

Good god give it a rest !!

If you don't like what some posters say fine, respond to them directly.Don't lump us all into the same boat. Most Canadian hockey fans are not whiners and appreciate good hockey no matter who plays it.

Making assumptions and statements based on a handful of over-the-top posters is doing a disservice to all other fans and yourself.

Interview with Friberg:

I did definitely not intend to mock the Swiss nor the audience.

Lounge Act is mocking Sweden and talking about how macho team Canada is. What kind of answer do you think he deserves?

Get a group of sports fans together in an arena and 3/4 of the time they turn into idiots (those who weren't already idiots to begin with).

If that's an excuse, then how can anyone blame a 19 year old for the celly after scoring a possibly game winning goal?

To be frank it's not only him.. most of the posts in THIS thread [With a canadian flag] are negative about it hence the obvious answer is to reply in the same manner.
