Bednar can sound like a really smart guy at times. Now he just has to show it.

Playing Blake Comeau the 4th most even strength minutes is not showing it lol.

But I think we all knew there had been a divide in the locker room the instant this club signed Jarome Iginla. It was an unnecessary "changing of the guard" due to Iginla's reputation alone. Add in all the old vets that showed up from his time of signing until this past offseason and you have the makings for a very timid youth group that probably wasn't willing to engage the vets. I'm so happy the useless plugs are off of this team. Just a couple more to go in Comeau and Colborne.

This. Bednar always says the right things, but he now he's to show strides in his ability to coach in the NHL. You can go through games when Comeau is playing that much consistenly, I get if there's a lot of penalties in a game that his TOI will be up, but there weren't that many penalties to warrant him playing that much. I think there's still a chance Bednar can be a good NHL coach, we'll just have to see how this year goes.

It boggles my mind that we haven't developed someone by now to play on the third and fourth line. Apart from Greer whose had a meteoric rise of sort and even he aint playing full time here yet. Of all the drafts between 2010 to now you mean to tell me not one guy can do what Como does? Most teams have a hard time drafting and developing a guy to play in their top 6. We cant seem to draft guys who can play on our 4th lol and I don't mean guys who move down the roster. I mean legit 3rd, 4th line PK, faceoff specialist type guys. The Boyd Gordons and Brooks Laich of the world.

With the current trend of smaller, skilled players breaking into the NHL it bodes well for Barrie's defensive game.
Remember to place your bets and you can be a thousandaire in fake money just like me.

Bet $16,000. The payout is garbage though, I only earn around $4000 if the Avs win.

It's more of a development issue that anything else. I mean just look at the top guys we draft, holes in their game surface after the fact. On other teams young prospects grow and mask their issue we seem to create holes that weren't there.

That's because Avs been finishing top 10 draft position for a while and you don't draft a bottom 6 forwards with top 10 picks, so they have to find someone like that in later rounds which isn't easy to do. Good bottom 6 forwards would be available somewhere between 20 to 30 pick in the 1st round.

Edit:
Edit: Having said that, Avs have a 2nd overall pick playing on the 3rd line this season

Your suppose to be able to find utility players in the later rounds. We should have been able to find another Cody Mcleod type player to play that role on this team by now. It sucks we don't really have that guy today and are almost forced to watch Como.

I agree, later rounds should still be a place to find bottom 6 forwards, but i'm not sure if Avs have scouts good enough to do that

Looking at Facebook, the Avs put up the opening night roster, and it shows Mironov and Barberio, but not Barrie or EJ. Kind of weird

Edit: looks like they fixed it now.

Riley Nash as their first line center again?

Ouch...

I probably shouldn't have bet on the Bruins in that case...

Yikes...

I might have really underestimated how bad their roster looks without Bergy (and Backes)...

I’ve been told it’s spelled “Pokecheck”

Picked up my ticket for 25 post fees. I'm pretty sure I paid 40 for a similar ticket last year. There are some silver linings to a craptacular year.

But the AVs didn't even find Cody McLeod through the draft. He walked on the with AVs AHL team in 05 and spent his first season or so bouncing between the AHL and ECHL. Pretty impressive career for an undrafted player really....but it goes to show the AVs really can't draft & develop grinders at all. I'm guessing Cody McCormick was the last successfully drafted and developed grinder and he was drafted in 2001.

Didn't Lindholm have an offensive zone penalty against the bruins on the weekend?

Maybe that's more of a message from Bednar that you can't take unnecessary penalties, despite how good Lindholm has looked.

Personally I would have waited a game, otherwise it sends a bad message in that you play good and get scratched.

Is Chara really a top 2 defender anymore? I admittedly don't follow the Bruins...pretty much at all....but I'd like to think he'd be better suited in a 2nd or 3rd pairing no?

Lindholm looks like our #6 Dman..

Barbie probably still is liked thanks to what he did once he came over last season.
It might sense to rotate these guys a bit.

Especially given that penalty he took.

I also am not as impressed with Lindholm as I am with the other 5.
So yeah. He should be the guy that gets rotated around..

I just wonder if Bigras plays RHD or LHD for the Avs in the future...
