Upper body, they will never come out and say exactly what it is. All that matters is that he rests, and does his physio etc. I want him to be completely healthy before suiting up. He is obviously our best player, and the biggest key in the organization. No reason to rush him back, like the Jays did with say Sanchez, and Travis and have him miss months instead of a couple weeks.

Makes sense. Worry about one day at a time, if need be he can spread it out more tomorrow, beauty of this game is Boston plays us tomorrow. Meaning that they will be just as tired, so there should be no excuses for our guys. Really I have been waiting to see a full 60 minute effort since the first game of the season. Though last game Babcock said post game, "we had the lead, and liked how we tightened up defensively." I think this is one reason why the goals are missing (from earlier). With how bad defensively we have been, I think he has taken away certain players offensive abilities, to make sure we are good defensively. Though Rielly seems to have figured out how to do both, Gardiner has not whatsoever. For me Gardiner is at his best when he wheels through the neutral zone, instead of waiting..waiting..waiting...long up that goes for icing or intercepted.

Matthews is out. f***.

Well at at the very least (and I mean bottom of the barrel) other fans can shut up about the Leafs lack of injuries being the only reason we’re good.

I meant the person I answered, they said something to the effect of "they wouldnt say if it was back, wrist etc." I did not say posters here, or many here. I literally was answering 2 specific people, who literally didnt get why we wouldnt say what it was.

Well I doubt Matthews plays tomorrow so that would mean 9 days off between the Vegas game and New Jersey. Hopefully he's fully healthy by that point.

Hoping for a solid effort tonight, and a full 60 minutes of play. Nylander vs Pastrnak will be neat as always.

sure would like to see Marner and Nylander switch places .

In theory that could work, it's like a new version of the Kessel line, just actually used as secondary scoring and not the first line.

Honestly just get 4 points out of this. I don't care what the lines are at this point. Just win.

Actually many times we do find out. The team will say upper or lower body. But many times people will have the information. It’s not uncommon. At all.

Look at rotoworld. They don’t Just say “upper body”.

They did say that--they said Upper Body, the day we played Minnesota. I have never seen a team say upper body, and then several days later say, oh its his shoulder, unless the player is going to miss significant time, and usually it means surgery. Getzlaf, they even said upperbody, then facial laceration, and lastly said he had surgery to repair it. With Matthews we were told upper body, not serious but needs time to fix it and heal.

I think the only way that happens is if he practices early next week, and it doesnt feel right what ever it is. I think it may be his wrist honestly. Several games ago, he didnt take a faceoff until midway through the first period, and Ferraro caught this. Then went "or not he is taking draws now." Also his shot looked off to me of late. I think he hurt himself, right before the road trip. I forget what game it was, where he sniped one in (right before that trip). He didnt look right to me on the road, still much better than every other player but not himself. He seemed to be shying away from corner battles, and when he was involved he wasnt using his big frame to win the puck. Normally he waltzs in, uses his body, then his amazing hands, and walks out of the corner almost untouched. The biggest clue was against VGK though when he took the tripping call and dropped his stick. We never see Matthews reach, and the fact he dropped his stick like that, I would say it is his wrist. Then again Kyper was right also, saying his speed seemed a bit down that game as well, and I agree with that comment as well. So could be his back, which would make sense as to why he was shying away from corner battles, and why his speed was a bit down. Either way I just want him 100 percent before he is back, we can afford to lose him for a couple games, losing him for more than a couple weeks, would be really bad. In fact this may help our team. We have no Matthews to lean on, so our game has to be far more solid in order to win. I thought the Minnesota game was one of our best defensive performances. Ya we got hemmed in at times, but overall it was far better than any game on the road.

Looks like Marchand's back tonight, apparently right back on the top line. They have Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak and then a whole lotta nothing. Our depth really needs to shine through.

That's because he didn't have any strong side faceoffs in that time, it's what they've been doing all season.

It would be a little concerning if he can't go next Thrusday. Means that it's more than just soreness.
The thought did crossed my mind. To me, day-to-day means he's very close and nothing too serious. He needs to be 100% healthy before attempting to get back into the lineup.

On the other hand, back-to-back against a divisional rival is also a huge deal. If Leafs lose tonight there could be a chance we see Matthews travel to Boston on Sat instead of sitting out until Thurs. If he can't play Sat *and* can't go Thurs then as you mentioned whatever is ailing him would be a little concerning.

No he did have several strong side ones he didnt take in the beginning, and pretty much after Ferraro makes a mention of it, he takes one LOL. No matter anyway, just from watching him every game I would assume wrist or maybe back. But if they are saying not serious, kind of doubt a back injury, because those are hard ones to figure out. If you or anyone has had a sore back, and you try to play hockey, it aint going to happen. Plus that would be a major risk, knowing his back is sore, and letting him play the one game. So saying that I imagine it may be his wrist.

Seems like the Bruins are just getting back to full health (minus Krejci for now), while we likely go without Matthews for both games this weekend (and definitely out tonight).

I've added Corsi back in to the comps alongside the xGF - Leafs' numbers this year are seeing a weird massive difference between the two numbers so far so I didn't feel that one number could be painting the clear picture. Not sure what that means at this point but we'll see how the numbers settle.

Legend:

Letter Grades = Quality of Competition measured by opponents' time on ice, Converted into Letter Grades for simplicity
p60 = points per 60 minutes
CF% = Corsi For Percentage (i.e. shot attempts for percentage)
xGF% = Expected Goals For Percentage (i.e. shot attempt percentage adjusted for shot quality) - this stat is already adjusted for zone deployment and game score
In Brackets = CF% and xGF% relative to team
dsv% = difference between save percentage and expected save percentage
