Wow, he’s a 24 year old with seven years of pro experience? He must have been a special player to be playing pro hockey at 17!

He must of been since his 1st game as a pro was in 2011-12, 2nd time he played pro was 2012-13 and every year since. Sure the 1st 2 years were only 4 and 10 games.

Ok 5 pro seasons. He is still as good as he ever will be. If he has not figured it out after 5 pro seasons he will not figure it out.

He is and never will be nothing more then a number 7th or 8th defensemen

He may sneak up to a 6th defensemen on a bottom feeder. But he will not get any better.

I'm sympathetic to DeBoer in that he needs to give the players room and time to grow, but he just doesn't have that much time to spare. I think everyone would agree that a youngsters should get 20-25 games before you start tightening the leash. But DeBoer he can't give every one of Heed/Ryan/DeMelo/Simek/Bergman that kind of rope. Moreover, as a competing team, you have to ice the best roster meaning that your leash has to be shorter, and you can't be "fair" with the icetime if a player who seized the opportunity plays over one who just never gets it.

So he has to evaluate players on very short timelines, putting pressure on the players and maybe adversely affecting their development.

The contrary side would be that the pressure is good for the players.
