I would not be surprised if someone digs this thread up five years from now and we're all happy we did jack ****.

I'm totally fine with getting destroyed next year. Because it was going to happen anyway - with or without Shattenkirk, Galchenyuk, Nico, Boyle or whoever.

The kids will play and now everybody's complaining? Have the guts to see through a rebuild.

Brian Boyle is going to play center on the 4th line

Beau Bennett is a middle 6 RW

what do the two have to do with each other, exactly?

Do you think we will win more games with Boyle on the 4th line than with Bennett on the third? I don't. Shero has made a few really strange decisions lately. Trading for Bennett and now losing him for nothing is one of them. The Mueller trade which ultimately cost us Merrill plus picks is another one. I doubt Mueller is a real improvement over Merrill. In fact, I believe neither have a place on an average or even above average NHL team. These are not trades that put us anywhere.

I said they are worse than a week ago. And they are, because Boyle is no improvement over Bennett and the costs three times as much. Even Cammalleri has a chance to have another decent season. Why not keep Cammi for another year? So we are going to play with a bunch of 20 year olds? Wow, that will be interesting. There were a few good FAs available and Shero didn't get any of them.

Boyle is a center. This team needs a reliable center aside from Zajac while the young kids come up.

Cammalleri is done. Why waste a roster spot on a guy that plays only 1/4 of the season and that has shown signs of really declining rapidly?

You ever think that he did talk to the remaining free agents and they want too much money or are not interested in joining the Devils?

What do you want him to do? Force them to sign a contract at gun point?

This team is not a desirable place to play at the moment, you do realize that right? They are rebuilding in the toughest division in hockey. That and they are located in Newark and NJ. Tell me, what sounds desirable about any of that?

He guys, you can play on a rebuilding team in a really ****** city in a ****** state with really ****** traffic conditions and play against the toughest teams in hockey 4 times a year. How's that sound? Wanna sign?

Can you imagine the Devils winning the #1 pick AGAIN next draft?

dude what the hell do Brian Boyle and Beau Bennett have to do with one another?

I said before I wanted to keep Benett too but its not the end of the world that we didn't.

Jon Merrill sucks. Mueller hasnt played 1 second for us, why dont we give him a chance?

Oh wow, it cost us a middle second round pick in a weak draft and a guy who can't stay healthy to be an impact on the blue line, oh and a 4th round pick. What a ****ing loss.

I would have preferred to keep Bennett, but what ever. He isn't some 30 goal sniper that can play up to 79 games a year. He's luck if he can play 79 games in 4 years let alone one season.

Merrill sure sucks. I have seen Mueller play several times though, and he sucks too. Save the pick, draft something decent, go with Merrill and you're better off is all I'm saying.

I somewhat agree. I wish we didn't dabble in UFA but we signed a crappy player to a crappy contact.

And we let Josefson, DSP, Bennett and Cammalleri walk...

So on one hand it's good we didn't sign any big contracts...on the other hand we did weird things today.

The best move we could've made today was to fire Hynes. But we got Boyle instead.

Yea, he sucks so much as a 22 year old who only has played 54 games in the NHL for a ******* coach like DeBoer who clearly has never had issues with younger players, especially younger defenseman.

Exactly. Thats's the way it is and there is no way to sugarcoat it.

The Bennett stuff is hilarious. As if driving possession is the only factor that goes into putting a team on the ice.

Not including Henrique, the guys who are not back on this team were among the most uneven players last year. And I'd like to think some combination of Zacha, McLeod and Hischier can cover Bennett's phenomenal 20 points production.

So then let's just wait and see. I say Mueller will never be better than Merrill. But I sure hope you are right and he proves me and DeBoer wrong.

I'm sorry, but if you think Boyle is a crappy player you're completely clueless. We have the cap space and it's a 2 year contract. You're gonna cry over that?
