Injury Report: Freddie Andersen

As per usual, I'll wait to see what the deal actually is before freaking out.

This seems odd considering he's twice been listed day-to-day and been out for months and the injury never disclosed...why would we think this time is any different?

It's also quite possible that there's an understanding that players shouldn't be playing through "minor" injuries. Players have been consistently pulled out of the lineup for maintenance days with a hair trigger. Andersen's injury may very well have cost us a 3-4 round playoff run last season, if he's feeling even a little bit like something isn't right it's in their best interests not to **** around with it. Not in January anyway.

My bad, it was Raanta that got hit with the Stick. What I'm seeing is it may have been related to the Shot by Robinson.

I would say that his injury had something to do with the slash he received in the first. So he may have just had a headache from the stick upside his head.

I agree with this thought. If we were in a playoff race maybe we play important guys a little more. Not that things cant happen and the season go south but the Canes are in a pretty good spot right now.

yeah this is my thought with Slavin and Freddie right now, doesn't sound like either is a longer term concern just no reason at all to not play it overly safe considering we only give a crap about the playoffs and we can win regular season games even without some of our top guys in the lineup.

Well, now I'm confused. After reading some of the more recent posts in this topic, people are saying it was just Rantaa.

I personally don't remember a high sticking against Andersen, and was taking folks' word as the truth.

Was I one of the refs from that game too? Who knows, but given the standard of officiating in the league, we would do just as well, if not, better than NHL refs. I think I'd have to practice skating again though.

I just remembered, I think both of our goalies DID get hit with a high sticking last night.

The reason I say this is I really want to say Tripp pointed out that Andersen got clipped with a high sticking, but I didn't actually see it myself because they didn't show a replay. I don't have the recording of last night's game anymore, so I can't look myself to verify.

Obviously there was a high sticking against Rantaa.

We have 4 more games before the Feb. break, Sharks, Bruins, Kings at home and then Sabres on the road. If there is any doubt re: near term recovery he could skip these games and have 16 days of "recovery/rest".

Same holds for Slavin....we need him come playoffs. If resting him for another 16 days gets him to 100%, sign me up.

If Freddy is indeed out long-ish term, who typically takes the starter crease? I would have said Raanta, but it seems like last stint Freddy was out for awhile, Petyr took over the starting gig while Raanta continued to play backup? Is that correct? is Petyr the future in the crease long term?

It depends on how Peter/Pyotr plays since his last few games weren't great (some can argue the team in front of him let him down; I certainly think so in his last game), but I think that's the plan if he gets back to how he was playing earlier in the season. Personally, I think he'll bounce back.

A potential curveball is the deadline if Carolina shops for a goalie, but I suspect they'll go with Peter and Rantaa regardless of whether one thinks we should get another goalie (one who doesn't have injury problems on top of being good). Perhaps Carolina looks at getting a new, and healthy goalie during the summer instead.

Whoever plays well and stays healthier is probably the best answer. Even during that last time, Raanta was banged up a bit when Pyotr got some run and did so well, and then Pyotr had his nagging injury and Raanta got some run.

- To change the bishopric

In the middle ages spoons were valuable and therefore personal items. One would not voluntarely give it away.

My guess is Raanta if healthy. If he has the slightest thought of any type of injury then Kotchetkov.
