For non locals, point of reference for the pollen complaints:

That’s a real non-filtered photo.

The defense has looked like a clown car out there way too often. And specifically, the Pesce-Skjei pairing has had some spectacular gaffs.
Pesce is rapidly approaching head-up-ass territory this season. That turnover leading to the 2nd goal last night was atrocious, and something a guy with his experience absolutely should not be doing.

The game is played for 60 minutes--so why mine them for a few seconds each game to produce a comical take.

Pesce/Skjei kept Draisaitl from getting a single shot on goal. The pairing spent the large majority of the Pittsburgh game against one of the few lines in the NHL with three ppg players and were only beaten for one goal. There may have been some gaffs, but that misses the multitude of little plays that have neutralized two of the games' elite players.

Certainly don't miss the pollen of NC, but I probably hate the smell of the abundant Callery pear trees in bloom almost as much.

Certainly don't miss the pollen of NC, but I probably hate the smell of the abundant Callery pear trees in bloom almost as much.

And amazingly, the smell is only the third-worst thing about the Callery/Bradford pears in my experience:

2nd: the leather-like leaves that wreck your lawn if you don't deal with them quickly.

1st: the fact they split under their own weight after about 10 years, meaning you need to keep them very well pruned or (better) just replace the damn tree after 10 years or so.

I was in a neighborhood where those trees were reaching 10+ years and one by one they would split under heavy wind and block the street. Ended up replacing ours before it could split on us.

I hear you, but they also came pretty damn close to costing us the Seattle game. Playing consistent steady D is important, but it doesn't excuse making game-altering mistakes.

We say the same thing about goalies when they stop 27 tough shots and let in 3 softies. You can protect a .900 goalie enough to win a game, but not if he's waving at blue line floaters. There's a Mendoza line when it comes to making unforced errors in the NHL.

Andersen didn't dress for the game against Seattle on Sunday. Were you playing it safe with him?
"Yeah. He was on the ice full today. A lot teams would call it maintenance. He got hit in the game (in the first period against the Washington Capitals on Thursday) and just didn't feel great. No concussion or anything like that. He just didn't feel great, so we gave him a few days off. We have a lot of hockey to play here. He backed up on Friday (against Pittsburgh). It was no problem. Then we decided to give him the weekend off and brought in [Alex Lyon] to back up."

Raleigh is the City of Oaks. Oaks flowers make a lot of pollen.

North Carolina is the Land of the Pines. Pines make a lot of pollen.

The Triangle in general has a pretty thick tree canopy.

Basically, this area is to pollen what Buffalo is to snow and the gulf coast is to hurricanes.
Driving on highway 70 in eastern NC on a windy day is one of the most enduring memories I’ll have of living here. Almost looks like a freakin blizzard at times.
