Ive seen women embellish stories before. Especially with the financial reward she had waiting on other end. If they found not guilty and their careers ruined. What will happen then?
If it were all about money then she got it. She wouldn’t take it this far if that’s all she wanted. They may be innocent but it’s common sense for a normal person. There’s a chance that she’s crazy but yeah it’s not looking good for them

I don’t think this is fair. Makkar isn’t talking about the actual assault. He’s saying that if he’d been there there would have been doubt cast on him whether he participated or not.

I don’t have an issue with this. He’s commenting on being fortunate enough to have been nowhere near the scene. Maybe not the best choice of words but that tweet is taking what he said out of context.
He was only thinking about himself which is fine but says a lot and how he’s out of touch

I agree with everything you’re saying. I just want to hear more of their side. These are not just career ruining accusations, but life destroying. They deserve to at least defend themselves in a case like this. But like you said it doesn’t look good with what we have now.

Obviously, I can’t relate to this kind of thing because I wasn’t stupid enough to put myself in a situation where I’d be got up in such a thing when I was that age. It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
Their side will be interesting but there’s 100% evidence in a hugely public case like this. Law enforcement combed this with a fine brush before charging these guys. They aren’t guessing. This usually means there’s something. In saying that I’m not saying they’re guilty but I’m going by why they usually make charges like this especially in high profile cases. They don’t want to embarrass themselves

Makar wasn’t even in London that night.
That’s why he said it was a ‘lucky bounce’ because if he had been in London, he may have been cast under suspicion even if he didn’t participate in anything illegal.

It’s a poor choice of words and insensitive. But within the context of what he’s saying, he’s correct. Moreover I haven’t seen the full extent of that discussion. Was it part of a longer interview? I don’t know.

Law enforcement already embarrassed themselves…

That doesn't mean Makar stuck around though...
I was replying to a poster saying he wasn't in London for the event. Makar wasn't at the bar or the hotel room where the assualt occurred. He probably did stay the night as the golf tournament was the next morning

What was he saying in the earlier quote? I think he said he 'wasn't there' and it was confirmed right? Maybe he's talking about the hotel?

I don't blame him (or any other player) for wanting to disassoicate themselves from this. It's an unfair stain on people who had nothing to do with anything here.

That's how understand his quote that he wasn't in the hotel room. Makar isn't going to say he wasn't in London at that time when there are dozens of witnesses and photographic evidence

Okay… if that’s the case, then his quote is worse than I thought it was. Lucky bounce that he wasn’t in the room?

Maybe it’s just sports channels but it seems whenever talking about sexual assault, rape etc. we hear about the “events that took place” or the “alleged incidents”. Seems to me when we hear about any other suspected crime, everyone just names the crime. Like murder, theft, drunk driving whatever. “Suspected fraud“ vs “something something mumble thing…”.

It's actually normal practice on in the media, for any crimes.

I guessing here, but production staff on sport networks probably went ham with coaching their talking heads about that stuff because they are absolutely not used in dealing/commenting on judicial cases and the networks don't want to expose themselves to libel/defamation lawsuits because someone said something wrong on live TV, so they may have tuned the alleged stuff up to 11 as a safety measure to make sure no one is slipping.

The chief in charge of the investigation went and blamed video games, music videos and TV for why men rape. A completely stupid statement to believe, let alone express during the press conference pertaining to this investigation.

That is taking the onus off of what these men did and putting the blame elsewhere. That is the type of belief and culture that allows rape to persist.

That Chief should have been immediately removed from the case for those remarks.

Wow that’s beyond stupid. I was specifically talking about the charges brought but that’s just embarrassing. I’m sure culture in general can be harmful but everybody knows that you don’t rape. I can’t think of a video game that promotes that either. It’s not the artists fault that people can take a lyric or a line from a movie and twist it into their own personal narrative. That’s on parents along with mental health or combined. People are just sick

Oh sorry I misinterpreted your original post then - but yes, what they said was stupid and they got ripped on social media for it. Sadly, the police being incompetent is nothing new.

I used to work closely with municipal police and the culture there was just as bad as hockey culture.. so not surprising there isn't much will to help victims.

It's a 100% their fault but the existance of porn as an example did not help. Young men watch gangbang porn and think it's reality.

The chief has no expertise on this and shouldn't have commented. He should have stuck to what he knows, he isn't being addressed in any other capacity than London Police Chief.

It also hints at some sort of deresponsabilization of the accused, which is a f***ing problem in a process whose aim is basically to determine the criminal liability of the accused.
