Both have been absolutely terrible. Gio is in a league of his own this season

It's been 2 yrs. He is passive at best, severely overrated, he is not a dman you can rely on

Rinne or Allen would have swallowed the 3rd goal initial shot instead of giving up a rebound though. And goalies like Dubnyk and Crawford after giving up that poor rebound would have made a fantastic stop.

Here's the thing, goalies in the NHL have to make a save once in a while. Yes, even hard ones. It's not enough for them to make just the saves their supposed too; other teams have high end offensive players that will create openings and whatnot. That's the difference from Smith this year and the Elliott last year.

Lack hasn't been anywhere good enough even with the defence looking horrendous. Which is the second thing; no matter how cap space the Flames allocate to their backend or how many assets they give up for names, the defence is always kind of mediocre. Should have just saved their first rounder, promoted Andersson and signed some cheap AHL depth in case of injuries.

We didn't really play badly, but we made some pretty bad errors, and if you make the worst mistakes, you're usually going to lose the game.

Anyway, this is an opportunity for a legendary comeback.

I mean, it would have been nice to get a big save, but I don't blame him for any of them (even though a couple were stoppable).

Besides the 3rd goal was also a poor rebound, even starting goalies with bad rebound control like Crawford, Dubnyk, etc. might have controlled their rebounds there.

Looking at it again, I'm not actually sure what's supposed to happen there. I don't think that seam pass should be so wide-open. I think a forward should be within reach to disrupt it. But if that's not the case, then yeah, Brodie should be covering both sides of the net there and not just sticking to his guy at the back post like he was.

The right side of our defense (/or PP Point) was pretty awful in that period. From Hamilton to Hamonic to Stone to Versteeg. And Lack was atrocious.

Giordano had a good period though, in there somewhere.

Lack definitely hasn't been good tonight. No truly bad goals, but you want your goalie to be a positive factor, not just a non-negative one. But it's very unfair to talk more about Lack than, say, Jankowski, Versteeg and Brodie. Looking forward to a new period, anyway.
