Yes but Andersson also has done it in two different leagues sandwiched around his time at the WJC

Oh, I am not in need of convincing about what Lias can do haha. I've seen him play in the SHL, CHL, WJC. he has had one of the most bizarre seasons for a prospect ever.

Chytil tried not to do anything crazy while in the NHL because he was barely 18 and getting his feet wet, but watching him in Hartford is pure hockey porn. If he learns to make those moves in the NHL, you're in for a big surprise. He's a better prospect than you realize.

I've enjoyed your game reports from Hartford, and really especially to hear about Chytil. I've tried to temper my expectations because of his age, but that's one of the reasons what he is doing in the AHL is so impressive, of course.

I'm sure he wanted to keep it very simple on his NHL debut, but I don't think he was terrible at all. Not that I'd of wanted him on the Rangers this year, given what has happened this season.

You know the vibe I’m getting out of Andersson and Chytil? Schwartz and Tarasenko. Schwartz was taken first. Tarasenko is the more skilled player but I believe part of the reason STL was able to take a shot at Tarasenko was because they had already snagged Schwartz who was a safer pick. Both are difference makers for the Blues.

I wasn’t all that vocal here at that time, but God did I want Schwartz at 10 that year

Chytil’s upside is severely underrated.

I can agree with the assessment that Andersson is safer and a more complete player.

But Chytil has a chance to be a 6’2-6’4, 225 monster who brings high end offense. I think we forget how young this kid is, even among his draft class peers.

Yeah there were a few guys I wanted there. Although if I’m being honest I wanted Schroeder over Kreider and I really liked Burmistrov in his draft year. I loved Tarasenko though.

I’m not one of those guys who thinks he could do better than Clarke and the group via hindsight (nor are you I’m sure). I just believe in giving those guys far more shots at talent then what we have done. We will miss at times, that’s inevitable.

Its a high bar to be an upper echelon 1C. Maybe like a Stepan or Zibanejad 1C, but the good 1C's around the NHL are usually the guys that were projected as such years before entering the draft. Crosby, Malkin, Tavares, Stamkos, McDavid, Eichel, Matthews. There aren't many Bergeron's or Getzlaf's, so I'm skeptical Chytil will reach what is considered a "1C", from that type of usage of the term, but I think he could be a top 31 center in the NHL, and probably has 70 point or more upside.

Jesus, there’s at least one (maybe even two) levels of centers between Stepans and Crosbys where Filip could land that would make me ecstatic.

Who are these centers? I think its largely semantics, and that Stepan is pretty close to the Johansen, Couture, O'Reilly tier, but maybe you'd put him in a lower tier, and say that Chytil will be about as good as the players just below the elite 1C tag.

I'd agree, and I think Chytil will be better than Stepan, but I don't think there's are many tiers between Crosby and Stepan. I think there are two tiers of 1C's. Those who fit the elite tag, and those who are top 31.

The Rangers are in a great spot with Chytil. He's playing excellent hockey and he can slide again next year. Let him develop in Hartford until he forces you to play him in the NHL.

Exactly. I'd keep him in the AHL for both reasons. He still has things to learn in the AHL, and his contract can slide.

As good as Chytil is this season, he hasn't outgrown the AHL yet. There's no harm in having 18-year old Chytil start in the AHL. He is 18 years old!

He can work on his face-offs, his board-play, his defense. And he can be part of a winning team in Hartford, instead of being on a losing team in NY that is going through a rebuild.

I mean, if that's the case, the Blues are as close to as dumb as we were. There were not many, if any, questions about Tarasenko that year. No need to secure something safe before taking the plunge on him. If it works out that way for the Rangers with our two guys though you won't hear me complaining.

Bingo. There's no need to get him into the NHL before he's ready. The team doesn't need to throw all of their young players to the wolves. Let him dominate the AHL the way Nylander did and then bring him up. Better yet, see if you can add a kid to play on his wing. Someone who can develop chemistry with him and then you can bring them up together.

Where would you rank Chytil in this upcoming draft?

He kind of forcing you to play him up right now so it is not as straight forward. We don’t know how things will shake out but it’s reasonable to to assume that at least KZB and Hayes and Miller will be here (if gone then likely because a better player is part of this group). Essentially there will be a group to shelter him as well as a spot to take advantage of an opportunity. If Chytil continues to dominate like this in the AHL then there’s really no need to be there other than learning to consistently play with intensity required in the NHL).

Edit: read new posts and just want to say that I don’t want another “kid” to play with Chytil. These kids need to be sheltered with veteran presence, not share exposure with another rookie.
