If he turns out to be a slightly taller version of MA Bergeron, I'm happy. Anything more than that is gravy.

He's looked better than I hoped/expected. There's still obviously some growing and maturing of his game needed, but that will come in time. Hopefully he doesn't get penciled into the line-up to start next season, as I feel he still needs more AHL time, but it's nice to see we have a legitimate call-up option on the farm.

His skating will be up to him to improve on.

Pretty disappointed he came to camp this year out of shape, makes me doubt his off season training regiment.

Out of shape and hiberated Bear was a PPG at the start of season

We really need him to develop into a full time NHLer, even if its just as a bottom six PP specialist. Schultz would have been good here if we used him properly instead of playing him to high in the lineup and already counting his Norris trophy's.

Extremely impressed with the way he has played so far. His defensive game is better than I thought it would be. His skating isn't anything to write home about but I don't think it is as bad as some made it out to be. Looking like a really good find.

Yeah hopefully Bear doesn't totally quit on his team like Schultz did.

His skating has not been an issue of late. He is looking more and more like a NHL defenseman IMO.

Like the progression he's made in the NHL it's a huge leap from the AHL to the NHL. It will be nice to keep him up for the rest of the season. Give him a good taste of what he needs to do. Then next year just have him in the AHL working on things and maybe he can be a part of the Black Aces for next years playoff run....

Unless we add a RHD that can run a PP why does he have to be in the AHL next season? He's already proven to be our best offensive RHD at the pro level and he's not hurting us defensively.

Tampa will be a very good test for him today defensively as they are a fast and skilled team.

Time for him to mature

Still impressed with this kids ability to make an outlet pass and his offensive instincts in general. His D does need work, but that's par for the course for a young d-man. And his skating needs work. But if he can work on the defensive side which should come with experience and get a good skating coach in the off season I think we got a player here.

I really like Bears offensive game but he's a shitstorm defensively which today was only exacerbated by the Quick Lightning strikes. The NHL game is still moving too fast for him. He needs more footspeed, needs to move puck quicker. I like the player. but he's really high event right now.
He definitely has his "oh shit" moments in own zone but its understandable. I think theres a lot of potential here.

I said something quite similar to this about a week ago.

You called it silly shit if I recall correctly. ;)

In reference to a particular game, heh.

Overall that game he was good. I don't expect him to be anything but unmasked in a game like this. Tampa are too dangerous not for him to be exposed.

I do think the kid is showing a lot of compete and composure, except if the puck happens to be anywhere near his net in which case he's showing brain freeze. ;)

but again, expected.

What I like is he's trying things, he's trying to use his skillsets and has the balls to do that in the NHL. So many D don't try the plays he's trying for years.

I don't disagree with any of this. Was just having a bit of fun.

Kid has lots to like. But he can't play defense at this level. No shame in it, but he needs more time before he's ready for prime time.

He's got some shockingly bad GF/GA numbers.
