If this is what it would take he will never be traded. I understand it would take a lot but these are all way over the top of what anyone would give up.

This.

'Value of Erik Karlsson' threads are dumb, because he's right up there with Crosby and McDavid as the most untouchable players in the league.

If Ottawa trades Karlsson, it would signal a rebuild of some kind. Young players only.

So that means no to either Stalman or Sekara.

Karlsson is not available. Period. He is a once in a lifetime player, and still very young. You don't trade that.

You do when Melnyk is the teams owner and opens his stupid mouth saying he won't release Karlsson for the olympics but might do it if he was a Canadian.

100% Karlsson is leaving, too bad the Leafs won't be able to afford him when he hits the market.

They won't be able to afford Matthews either after the media gets on to his case.

Enjoy Auston while you can before he bolts for the warm and less scrutinized confines of the southern US.

So if he says he wont renegotiate until he hits UFA you still keep him if the sens are out of the playoffs this time next season? Yeah right, everyone is tradable, ask gretz.

No counter just an attack, your response indicates you agree with me.

And what kind of glasses do you have?

Hater glasses?

Do they come with a special case?

They look like this

And you have to admit though, the values he listed are way too high. Look at any historical trades in the past. 2 years of Karlsson gets you a good young defenceman (Jones, Werenki, Ekblad) or forward (Nylander, Tkachuk, Aho) plus an established top line forward/#2 defenceman + a 1st.

No GM in their right mind is going to make any of the deals listed by that guy

If Karlsson is traded, he won't get his "actual value" because superstars never seem to get their actual value because they aren't traded, unless there's a motivated seller where
time is of the essence.

That's what the problem with these "value of" threads is.

He'll probably get a roster player, a good prospect and two #1 picks or something.

A guy like Matthews wouldn't get his actual worth because why on Earth is Toronto trading him unless there's some kind of emergency or problem?

Despite the hopes and dreams of a few Leaf fans in this thread, Melnyk shooting his mouth off is nothing new and the Olympics issue is pretty moot with the entire league turning up their noses to the players. So I think this is a pointless exercise in any event.

Can cash be traded these days? If so, Melnyk is probably going to ask for $100 million on the side to defer the enormous reduction in ticket sales that will occur in the following years.

If Ottawa were to trade Karlsson we'd want a 2017 1st, a top 6 centre, a top 4 defenseman and a team's top prospect. Even then we'd have to think about it.

Take Ziba back, Girardi the top pairing defenseman, our 2017 first that's 20+ in a weak draft, and Shestyorkin our top prospect and we'll gladly take Karlsson off your hands :) I'd throw in our whole prospect pool if needed

Sens would never get his actual value and especially if he's forcing the hand at all on a trade.

Look at past star deals, it's never as much as you think it will be.

Even if he were available, there cannot be anything off the table for a player like him. If there is, there is nothing to talk about.

He is ESPECIALLY off the table for Montreal and Toronto.

Probably not what you meant, but McDavid isn't a Dman.

gretzky was traded.

I'll agree that Ottawa may not trade him. He might be the most valuable player to his team in the league (besides McDavid).
But Karlsson is going be a UFA in two years and there is nothing the Senators can do if Karlsson wants to play with another team. At Ottawa's cap situation isn't all that great carrying Ryan, Phanuef, upcoming contracts of Turris, Brassard, Stone.
Ottawa has been a middling team at best with Karlsson and even if retained long term with a new contract, no reason to think Ottawa is going vault to be an elite team.
Long term improvement for Sens, might need a Karlsson trade. Maybe.

It's pretty rare for a player to leave the team that drafts him at UFA if he is extended a a contract offer.

There's always a lot of excitement around here (re: Stamkos) but it's usually misplaced as the guy inevitably re-signs with his team.

Karlsson is the Captain, is a big part of the community and is involved with a local girl. His mentor was Alfredsson who still works for the organization.

I'd be pretty surprised if he leaves.

How about I do this again?

Klingberg, Nuke, Faksa, and a 1st.

Forsberg, Ellis, Kamenev, and a 1st.

Pietrangelo, Schwartz, and a 1st.

Hamilton, Bennett, Frolik, and a 1st.

Draisaitil, Larsson, Jones, and a 1st.
