They stopped allowing excessive drinking at Commonwealth?

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone being denied a drink. Perhaps he's referring to the occasional gestapo antics where some people send security to talk to someone for cheering too loudly and associated it with them being against excessive drinking.

In your closet
I have never seen someone so much as get looked at for drunkenly making a fool of themselves at Commonwealth.

I'm also not the oldest guy who posts in this thread(close to the opposite, I figure) but that's still well over a hundred games over the last 15 years or so.

I've heard of some people getting a talking to for being loud, but I've never actually seen it.

My 22 year season seats (before Len got tarp happy and kicked us out for a piece of fabric) were beside the old college corner and there was always crazies up there. Unfortunately, it often led to fights then they tried spreading them out through the building. Maybe he's thinking about that.

Not that I was a fan of Maccioca to begin with but he lost me for good went he went public with his wishes to see the ratio become a thing of the past. That more than anything showed me how in over his head he was running a CFL team. He knew he had no clue how to draft and develop Canadian talent and was just looking for an easy way out. I saw him as a traitor to the Canadian game.

Thanks for remembering that, I had tried to forget about his ratio theory. No wonder he traded away valuable picks. Canadians are key to your specialty teams and look at our special teams in the last decade--brutal.

Still, after all the evidence was rendered DM was apparently a finalist for the Al's GM position-- against, final "quality" pick Kavis Reed.

I don't think that DM, ET or KR are in any way suitable management choices. Ed was brighter than these 3 guys but came with his own issues.

The constant recycling of these guys who would be best left on the cover of a milk carton has hurt the CFL. There are all kinds of younger guys in American and Canadian football college ranks that I would hire before I interviewed these dudes. Some of the college coaches don't have much experience with Canadian football but perhaps that's a good thing.

Brock grew up watching the Esks and that seems to have sufficed in terms of Canadian content.

I have. but not for being loud and drunk. usually for bothering other people and/or throwing things. that seems to be the line that you shouldn't cross. happy drunks usually have no problems.

for a season I had seats next to a boston pizza section which had dedicated beer sellers. saw more than a few drunken fools get escorted out. was also the only time I ever saw fights at a game.

good reminder also that size doesn't matter with skills and training.
I remember one time a petite police officer (guessing maybe 5'3" and 120lbs) was escorting out some drunk who had been causing trouble. fairly big guy.
he decided to shake off her arm and make a run for it. was amazing to see her take the guy down. had him on his belly and in cuffs within about 15 seconds.

There was absolutely no doubt Maas was getting extended. I like it although I hated that ill-fated gamble that may have cost us a finals win. I think he'll learn, and yeah I know he never admitted the error.

He’s got a lot of redeeming to do and to me it has less to do with his poor decision against Calgary and more to do with him not acting like an ass on the sidelines. It’s almost like his poor coaching has made everybody forget about his poor behaviour.

In other news, "The Eskimos organization wishes to congratulate Jason Maas on graduating from his grade 4 math class, and only on his 3rd try."

Jason Maas' outbursts (although less frequent than many remember) were real as was his bonehead decision in the West Final. So is his intelligence- which only serves to make your post that much more off-base. In fact, I'll be very surprised if Maas fails to learn from his errors and doesn't improve going forward.

You're better than that.

Maas is an intelligent man.

Really?
You sure wouldn't know by what he has revealed so far.
If he is so intelligent then perhaps he should consider revealing it by carrying himself with some maturity and dignity and displaying more intelligent decision making.

What are you basing the bolded on? Where is the evidence so far that would lend you to believe this?

I am open to hearing all about the examples of how Maas has learned from his childish outbursts and poor decision making.

Don't play coy and holier than thou, you know exactly what I was getting at, and it was a chirp and nothing more. His math gaffe during last years final produced everything from hatred to vitriol to flat out embarrassing jokes. If you can't find the humour in it, then fine, but don't pull that crap.

Apparently another one that cannot discern between a joke and a level of reality. Some sensitivity making the rounds today it appears.

Uh pot kettle black, you are the one that made the original comment and then used 3 spots in a row to whine about people taking you to task for it.

If anyone is being 'overly sensitive' it is you.

Anyway guys, I think it was just in jest so as Tony would say...fahgetaboudit. The problem with the internet is that you don't have tone, inflection etc. like real life so its sometimes hard to understand the real intent.

As far as the extensions go, I think the move on Sunderland was a good one. He's shown enough in his first year and will probably end up in the NFL one day anyway but for now we have a decent GM and some continuity to restock the Canadian talent shelves. I wonder if the NFL came calling (for lets say an Assistant GM position somewhere in the NFL) if the Esks would just let him go and tear up the deal? I imagine they would.

As for Maas, I would not have extended him for another 2 years, that's too long. If the club is in last place by Labor Day and we continue to see dwindling crowds then Sunderland might have to fire him. That becomes tougher to do when you have just given a guy a fairly long extension by CFL standards. I would have waited to see how the season went and then if all went well offer a 2 year extension thru 2020.

Terminating the guy any time this season now seems unlikely and I don't think that's the positon the club wanted to be in. I don't hate Maas or anything but that was a very serious error in the Western Final. Sure the guy is still an inexperienced coach but he's been around football all his life.

I didn't think I would ever live to quote Kavis Reed but "there's got to be consequences." This move doesn't smack of credibility in the fan's eyes and we need a lot more of those rear ends in the seats.

Anxious for camp to see which players rise to the surface.
