great guy but.. yikes.
I was pretty happy to get him in the summer. Yeah he's streaky but was more good than bad from what I saw of him in Toronto.

But holy shit, I'm overwhelmed with buyer's remorse right now. Granted, Holland did nothing to improve the defense and has pocket lint for cap space (idiot) but some of those shots which went in over the past few games should have been stopped.

the team keeps losing in the 1st round.

the leafs core is young but their best chance to win a cup is the next 2 years. after than the leafs have to sign some big contract that will start a cap squeeze.
Maybe in the short term. In the long run, say 2-3 years from now, the cap will increase every few mill and help all teams out, including the leafs. Even Tavares will be off the books so they can go any direction they want, they’ll be fine. Top it off with a few guys on elc contracts and it shouldn’t be a problem to keep the core and add to it

Dont sign 5 year deals as a goalie. Its insanity. For both the team and player
...
This 5 million thing is desperation from Holland. Best would had been a 2 year contract. But who signs those?

It was Campbell and maybe Martin Jones avaliable in trades. Not to hard to figure out who would be catched.
Holland should had traded for a Nashville goalie. Those are the best.

But there is still time.
I hope Mike Smith is an excellent goalie trainer. Oilers former goalie coaches has been horrible.

He is trash... best move Dubas ever made was to move on from him.

all teams get the same increase and player salary will scale with the cap. the leafs are unlikely to have as much talent on the team at that point as they they will have over the next 2 seasons.

I have never seen a goalie play so many horrific games in a row like Campbell has this year.

Thankfully for the Oilers Skinner is becoming an elite level goalie, don't be surprised if he ends up being one of the best in the world in the next couple years.

You know he's really struggled but at least he is available and hopefully he can figure it out for when Skinner gets in a funk. Kallgren is a disaster.

what does Kallgren have to do with the Oilers goaltending situation or Jack Campbell signing 5x5? just really confused why you threw a jab at Kallgren at the end there. also had a pretty good game last night for a 4th string goalie

His save percentage was sub .900 since November of last year. What exactly were you expecting or watching?

Kuemper was also a free agent. At least he had more of a track record.

Leafs goaltending must have soemthing to do with it given that the only thing keeping this thread on life support is Leaf fans talking about how good it was to move on from Jack. Yeah Jack has the occasional fine game too, doesn't save him ITT.

Draisaitl is 5th in the NHL in even strength goals over the last 5 years. This is 10 second search on NHL.com. He is an elite even strength goal scorer, and you seem to hold it against him that he's also the best powerplay goal scorer. What a terrible take.
Not a terrible take. Accurate af. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it wrong...fail post is fail!!!

You're right. Me not liking it doesn't make it wrong. It being wrong makes it wrong. Suggesting that Draisaitl is a powerplay specialist is objectively, verifiably false. Take the L and move on.

I think for a larger portion of this thread it's everyone telling us how much of a mistake it was letting him go, you know the saying right? what goes around comes around.

however still weird that you threw a jab at Kallgren theres. he literally has nothing to do with Campbell or Edmonton, also our 4th string

know what is kind of funny though? that disaster Kallgren has better numbers than Campbell

On a positive note, Campbell has five years to figure it out, right?:D
