Honestly I'm not sure what our needs would be going forward if we move Subban/Ellis. I would think an NHL ready prospect would have to be involved though. I think a lot depends on how Poile feels about Fabbro and if Subban/Ellis can rebound.

Hamhuis started off really well, but I think his age is catching up to him lately.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Will be an interesting situation to monitor.

How do you feel about acquiring an extended Duchene (assume, say, 8x8 if done with Ottawa or 8.5x7 if negotiated before the trade but done after)? What would you give for extended vs non-extended Duchene?

Cost controlled top 6 forward (with at least borderline 1/2 line potential), depth D, prospects, picks. A defenseman should not be the major component due to the potential for Fabbro to maybe fill a top 4 role and why trade a top-pairing capable d-man just to return a lesser d-man as the primary piece?

Don’t worry Sens fans - Melnyk is prepared to make the Sens a cap team from 2021-2024. This man shouldn’t have a franchise. I cannot believe the Avs have the Sens’ 1st round pick unprotected - for a player who’s about to go elsewhere. Everything is NOT fine. This is downright absurd.

The pick was protected, they thought it was wise to take Tkachuk last year instead of keeping this years

That pick was protected. The Sens have just sucked for two years in a row.

I think it's going to be Tolvanen + 1st for an unsigned Duchene. I don't think we'd be interesting in adding much more if we're confident he'll sign here.

How would you rank Fiala, Tolvanen and Fabbro in terms of value? I think I have Tolvanen 3rd personally but curious as to your evaluation as well as how your fanbase tends to value them

That's tough. Fiala has proven he can be a 50 point player in the league although this year he's been in a slump. With Fabbro being a defenseman and Tolvanen being a winger I think it's tougher to rank them. Right now they're our 1A/1b prospects.

Recently just lost a defenseman in torts language “quite a bit of time” - that’s his way of saying “rest of the regular season”

If you’ve ever seen Dean Kukan play hockey you’d understand how Cici is an upgrade.
And if you’ve seen how Ceci plays hockey you’d realize why he isn’t.

But hey....if you want to give us something for him....he’s all yours.

Not sure many that make comments actually have. HF whipping post.
Him being the Sens whipping boy here is his own doing. He contributes next to nothing offensively and is a defensive liability at the best of times.

I haven’t even factored in the turnovers in my assessment of him.

I will concede it’s not totally his fault in the sense he’s a 6 Dman whose been forced into a top 4 role......but the fact remains he is not a very good NHL calibre hockey player.

Yeah I was thinking Bonino could be part of the trade.

Ottawa needs a stop gap center when they move Duchene imo

Sens pretty much have three different kinds of middle 6 Cs already in White, Pageau, Tierney. So I wouldn't say they need Bonino.

Bonino could be the money that comes back in the trade, but I think if there's a contract dump to facilitate an extension, it'll be Craig Smith. He's playing a lot less than Bonino on Nashville, and he's got more upside for Ottawa as far as scoring goes, which is something the team is going to be lacking. We've already got a C in Pageau who can take the tough d-zone assignments.

Next year, I could see Pageau as our C doing most of the heavy lifting, then White and Tierney starting out on the top two offensive lines. Brown would come in as the sheltered 4C/power play specialist, and if he's the real deal might be in the top 6 by mid season because of how thin our center depth is.

Fiala clear #1 for me. Then again, I don't know if anyone has higher expectations for him than I do. Like said, he's already NHL ready and on a pace for 40+ points in a season he's struggled. I say he's gonna be a consistent 50-60 pt guy for us.

Fabbro has said he wants to go pro and sign with the Preds as soon as his season is over, which decreases his trade value. I haven't seen him play, so don't have a clear opinion on who would be more valuable if they were on the same line. Right now I think Fabbro is 3rd in value.

He was OK on the 2nd pair with Phaneuf, and (previous years) before that (again as a 2nd pairing defender), and Phaneuf is no stud. Not saying he's a stud defender, so let's not go there either. I doubt if you really watch him much, but it isn't interesting or important enough for me to argue about it (with a HF expert).

Dreger has been pushing on Insider Trading that there is a market of 5 teams in on Duchene who want to make a deal with an extension in mind, but that Brisson (Duchene's agent) has not been brought into things yet.

Purely a guess on my part, but if hes right on Buffalo being in this, I'd expect it's in hope of an extension. same would go for the isles imo

Bobby Mac was just on TSN 690 and just said that he's hearing conflicting reports about Duchene to MTL. Some of his sources say yes while others say no. He's not sure anymore.
