Taking the defense they've drafted in aggregate I am hopeful a couple will turn into NHL regulars and really hope one will turn out to be a top two guy.
Wings took Filip Larsson - a goalie with sweet 3.86 GAA. I guess it's an okay 6th round goalie pick - nothing mindblowing but you can't guess how they pan out.
Yeah 6th round and a goalie. Don't care at all. No problem with taking a goalie every other draft year in the latter half of the draft. Just pick a name out of hat and be done with it for the next two years.
I would agree with you, but the Wings have drafted a goalie now three years in a row. Chase Perry in 2014, Joren van Pottelberghe in 2015 and Filip Larsson in 2016. There's a myriad of free agent goalies available from Europe every offseason. No imperative need to spend picks on goalies.
A big winger who has great skating ability and gets to top speed fairly quickly. You don’t expect to see a prospect this big with the speed to breakaway from the junior defenders, but he does. After they play against him a few rushes, they see how he forces them to back off. Displays a good strong shot, very good hands and an emerging physicality. He can beat you one on one, with a shot from the perimeter, or with body work. Projects as a player who can develop into a power player.

Where is Frk It... WE DID IT BUDDY! 4 D!
hell yeah
I really hope that trading Datsyuks contract helps us land some big-name UFAs. Otherwise we gave up a sure-fire #1 defenseman.
As of right now, I'm extremely disappointed with that draft.
From those who know, is Smith more talented or skilled than lil Bert? They were drafted in near identical spots from what I could recall.
I preferred Bert in terms of comparing them at this stage of their developments. Though Bert had injury issues his frame was still catching up and he had more skill and was even a little grittier still. Smith is more physically developed already.
Interesting would you consider Smith little more inline with svechs skills set?
Dennis Cholowski
Givani Smith
Filip Hronek
Alfons Mamlstrom
Jordan Sambrook
Filip Larsson
Mattias Elfstrom
We needed D and we got D. But all of these are far away from the NHL, Smith is perhaps most NHL-ready player. Sambrook sounds like steal pick. Larsson pick i dont understand at all.
