NJD fan here....the Devils are not a high profile team. We have a couple of beat writers, that's about it. The media market barely knows we exist. It's perfect for a guy like him if he wants low key.
I personally don’t think Dougie cares that much about low key. He marches to the beat of a different drummer and if people don’t like it, I don’t think he cares. Just my impression.

Thats true and it isn’t. Hamilton completely changes the way you play when he’s on the ice, you don’t replace something like that by committee. The replacements will be a different PP QB/shooter, and a new partner for Slavin (probably different players) so I’m that sense, yes. But it’s not replacing what he actually brings to the table.
It’s going to be something like Subban (only owed $2m after his bonus is paid) and DeAngelo ( cheap show me contract).

It’s definitely going to ring hollow re. Ned (“we need a veteran goalie to help us win In our Cup window”) if they don’t re-sign Hamilton. Reason being, Dougie is acclimated to the team, he is of course a top pairing offensive D man…..everything the team needs.
I get the finances, the money-puck stuff…but the more you shift stuff around, the more likely the chemistry is off. I liked the team as constituted, plus or minus some grit on the 3rd and 4th lines. Aho, Svech, Necas continue to grow and get better.

I just see this, so far, as impatience and impertinence. Not freaking out of course, that would be silly - because we don’t know the finished product for Game 1. I don’t like where it seems to be headed, but signing 19 would be a good rebound.

It's stupid to assume that NJ would be the front-runner, nevermind how much the team outlet tries to suggest it and mobilize their fans to welcome him. There are better teams willing to pay him that.

This where I’m at.

All this Hamilton to NJ is based on an article where the central idea is that there “might” be mutual interest, that NJ “could” offer 9M per. I’m sure NJ interested in signing him, I’m much less convinced he’d actually consider signing there.

I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s where he ends up, but also wouldn’t bet on it. I feel like there’s a better chance now he stays in CAR, but again, I wouldn’t bet on that either. I’m just ready for it to be over, one way or another.

Also, I’m ready to welcome DeAngelo and Savard with open arms next Wednesday…:sarcasm:

Subban talk sounds like "Dundon is cheap" nonsense manifesting internally. Why would PK making $2 million in real salary (as seen above) be important? This isn't Arizona and PK's Cap hit doesn't match his play even at 50% retained. I don't see any logic in that move. Pay Yandle $1.5 million x 1 year if you want a washed up PP specialist.

I really hope the team doesn't sign TDA and if Rod's belief that character is important holds true then he won't be signed. But the team is owned by a guy who made his money ripping off poor, vulnerable people so who knows.

Alternate theory: He actually really cares a lot if people don't like him, but is so scared they won't that he has developed this whole cocky/chill veneer as a defense mechanism to make people think he doesn't give a shit and therefore cannot be hurt by them.

We can join the ranks of the Blackhawks and Habs with their brand destruction if we go that route.

I spent a few minutes trying to figure this out.
So I get Habs/Mailloux. What did Chicago do to destroy the brand that would equivalent to a team signing D'Angelo?

Oh come on, we know that's not going to happen.

If anything, they've always overstocked on defensemen. Our worst case scenario is probably better than 20 other teams' best case scenario.

We are better team with Hamilton but even with him we are not good enough as a offense. How we can improve or the plan is simple - patiently waiting for next step of Svech/Necas?

Against Bruins in 2019 we've scored 5 goals in 4 games.
Against Bruins in 2020 we've scored 11 goals in 5 games.
Against Tampa in 2021 we've scored 9 goals in 5 games.

That's 25 goals in 14 games, man.

*a tear runs down Dougie's face as he completes his daily ritual of reading hfboards to see what everybody thinks of him*

Don't push him away Robo. Dougie is a 5 star man.

So you're saying that he's constant dressing up as a Disney princess is to give the just-don't-care airs, but in reality actually it's because everyone loves Disney princesses and can't hate them?

We love you, Dougie. Don't leave us.

My IRL hockey friends think I'm crazy, but if the Hurricanes take that big of a loss to the roster on paper I think they're a bubble team in the Metro.
Especially if the Rags pickup Eichel. IMO they're the team nipping at the Hurricanes heels and I think they could probably catch up next season.
As I've said before, this is the most important off-season of the Dundon era yet. This is the off-season that sets up the next 4-5 seasons. When we start to see the final seasons of the Aho, Slavin, Pesce, TT contracts, I highly doubt they're going to be able to retain all of those players. Especially if they keep their current tactics when dealing with contract. If they want to win a cup they're going to have to eventually sign a high-end player or two to a shitty contact. They were willing to do it with Gardiner.

I don't think that's crazy at all. The Metro is going to continue to be tough, and we might have been a bubble team this year even with Dougie, for all we know. The gap between first and fourth can be pretty thin. Injuries, slumps, other teams: they all have an effect.

We can't assume that this team is a playoff team every year, even with Dougie, even spending to the cap. The playoffs aren't suddenly our birthright.

Losing Dougie will make us worse. Spending 8 million dollars will make us somewhat better. We'll see.
