While I'm certain Bowman's leash for Lafleur was longer than most guys on the team...it is hard to imagine he'd have been really cool with #10 sauntering back every game on a back check. As good as Lemaire defensively was plus the big 3 on D, Montreal's greatness was all pulling in the same direction...even when to spite Bowman,
True but the room for error was much larger in Montréal than in LA.

Of course it affects his legacy. How could it not? This is sports. Do you think Dan Marino is unaffected by never having won a Super Bowl? Everyone qualifies their comments to "who never won a championship" in a discussion. That's just how it is.

McDavid is great enough that yes winning a cup will impact his legacy. He will never be held above crosby without at least 1 cup.

Pretty sure that is also what Karl Malone and Barkley are mostly known for

It sticks with you and grows and grows overpowering your other achievements

It affects to him more than anything at this point. How can one be one of the greatest without ever achieving a ultimate goal?

Every season without a Cup is disappointment if you ask by himself. How can you be one of the all-time best if your every season ends with a failure?

And can't hide behind the Oilers roster, his team is definitely good enough and Holland has been very good gm

I do think the responsibility on a QB to win is far greater than one of 12 forwards regardless of how good that forward is.

Lets not get crazy, he may be better than Chiarelli, but he's also the same GM that hasn't hit once with a draft pick in 5 years, signed Nurse to a contract 2-3 million higher than his worth, and signed Jack Campbell to a 5 year deal, on top of a bonus laden contract to Connor Brown for 1 goal.

These 3 mistakes are bad but he has done more good. He acquired Hyman with a steal contract, and Ekholm who have both been very critical players. Kane for one million was insane although he has regressed a bit since. He signed steal contracts for RNH, Bouchard, Skinner and he has improved the team with bottom line guys i like a lot; Foegele, Ryan, Kulak, Perry, (Kostin). Also, his coach choices have been great.
