This coming out of nowhere and being fast tracked into production looks like a reaction to Disney's disastrous 2023. They desperately need something that makes money, and a Mandalorian movie with Grogu in it is sure to make money. I bet that they threw a lot of money at Favreau to save them.
I'm also betting that whatever the movie is, the origins were in season 4 planning, which is how they can move it so fast. Probably already working on it for TV and decided to make it a movie instead.

I've canceled my Disney+ subscription. The quality of the shows for star wars - save Andor - was absolutely unappealing. Even THRAWN, my all time favorite character, was written like a children's villain.

Sorry, if you want an adult to pay you have to make shows with an adult in mind. You don't need to be sexy or violent (though ambiguous violence, like the Mandalorian season 1, was good). These shows just remind me of cartoons and they are very boring.

They’re beloved by a pretty sizable portion of the fandom, mostly driven by people who grew up with them and are now adults.
That doesn't change the fact that, objectively, the Star Wars prequels are complete garbage.

Both TFA and TLJ are competently made movies. RoS is an unmitigated disaster and even it is better than any of the prequel movies.

I always enjoyed the Prequels. So many bad lines in it that we have decades' worth of YouTube creativity out there like what the Auralnauts did. So many cringe moments with weird actors (aka anybody Anakin). However, I grew up with those movies and they have a soft spot for me. Phantom Menace gets a lot of hate, but has some of the best action elements of any SW movie, AotC was a cool investigation journey movie going to so many places (if you get rid of the Anakin love scenes'), and RotS has the Youngling massacre which has brought endless memes, though is the weakest of three for me.

The worst part of the Disney movies is that they aren't even memorable, no "I hate sand" references, no interesting locations, no plot, no new elements, just nothing except rehash over rehash. The worst sin of all is simply no service done for the old movies. It went too new too fast with nothing to back it up and it failed. I don't care about Finn who had no role in the movies, I don't care about Kylo anger issues, I don't care about casino planet, I don't care about Hoth 2.0 ice planet, etc. You gotta make people care and none of that was in this trilogy.

The premise(s) from the prequels were at least interesting on paper. Much of what’s in those three movies was not very good but there were plenty of cool moments and cool characters. Darth Maul was sick as a bad guy and the lightsaber duel was fantastic. Anakin’s evolution into Vader was well done enough to always be kinda cool and I usually watch RotS every 3-4 years. I wouldn’t say they’re good movies but can be fun to watch at times.

Theres a potentially great story about Anakin in there somewhere. I wish it were handled differently as he really is a tragic character who succeeds in being the chosen one.

The sequel trilogy should’ve been set much further in the future and not included any Skywalker aspects to it. Instead we got 3 sloppy movies with hollow writing.

It truly should've been KotOR or something brand-new as you alluded to. I get that Disney is the "McDonaldisation" of entertainment, but I just don't know how you can allow forty different people to have a say and cause the script to be redone more times than an eight-year-old's favourite show.

Those adults have horrible taste and should be ashamed to associate themselves with the SW fandom.
Jar Jar, Midi-chlorians, C-3P0 is Vader's creation, flying R2D2, Sifo-Dyas (who?), coarse and rough sand...put a bullet in us already George.

For a 'What If' I'd like to see Qui Gon defeat Maul. And maybe have Obi Wan be the one that died instead?
They could really have fun with the people who always wonder why Obi-Wan didn't use Force speed and have him use it and be the one to get killed instead.

I think there's a lot of potential with the series. Whether or not they pull it off...well people are going to be mad anyway lol

Yeah, it's a lose lose situation. Has been since Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Heck, George himself would've nixed the old expanded universe which people still would've hated.

Season 1 of The Mandalorian is so good. It’s unfortunate we never got more of it.

Same (a few months ago).

Don't mind paying for good content, but with the crap released, and the frequently increasing sub prices...I'll wait and see what my Plex server has to offer instead.
