It feels like the only game we've won against them in the last 2+ years was when Kinkaid stole the game and had 45 saves or something and we won in a shootout in DC on the dad's trip last year.

The only other time I can remember beating them in the last 3 years is when Cammalleri was gifted a goal from Holtby in the 3rd period on a giveaway and we beat them 1-0. I think Pete was still here, that's how long ago that was.

There must have been a full moon that night, I think JaJo AND S Gionta scored in that "Dads" game

NYR is a much better matchup for sure but I’m worried about tomorrow’s game. They really need to stop the bleeding and a rivalry game always has the potential to be a good elixir.

the difference between us and the leafs. they called our game against them a 'trap' game, we were over confident with the caps. it was a textbook trap game and we fell into it. they will bounce back. gotta keep the faith.

Yeah I really am not too worried. Just cut down on the penalities and I think we run over them with speed

I'm glad to see Hynes acknowledge that this was a terrible game. I can't think of too many guys that played great, even if some guys didn't play that bad. Thought Cory had a meh game. Goals 2 and 4 weren't good, but he didn't have a chance on the other 3. Goals 3 and 5 were weird ones.

My biggest issue is they came out in the first very slow. They looked hung over.

I liked some of the effort to try and get back into this one, but the late goal in the second was a bad effort, and lazy penalties in the third were the daggers.

You simply can't be giving extra chances when you are already having match up issues.

The Devils are really missing Zajac on the PK. They've been bleeding goals there.
3 out of 5 caps goals scored on the pp.
2 out of 3 leafs goals were on the pp and the 3rd goal was seconds after pp ended and Devils were still in 5 on 4 situation.
1 out of 2 Buffalo goals were on the pp (other was Kane's garbage time goal).
0 out of 1 Avalanche goals were on the pp but their goal was again scored in 5 on 4 situation with the Devils player just stepping out of the box.

It's essentially 3 even strength goals against and 8 penalty kill goals against in the four games.

Really didnt have their legs in the first 2 periods and they cant play their style if they arent skating. Then the penalties ended it quick. Didnt have any puck luck which we had a good amount of in the previous 3. Some soft calls too didnt help, but really they just werent moving their feet right from the start. Caps had some ridiculous snipes too

well when you put it like that..... kinda crazy. but they just had zero legs tonight. bratt was almost invisible had a few good plays but not much. they had the game in their hands and the zacha penalty blew it. not knocking him, it happens, but that was lights out.

Cory was definitely a bit off and the young guys didn’t get anything in the net tonight but it’s all part of the learning process. Bratt Nico Zacha Butcher et al need to learn how to play against top veteran teams. Heck look at the Caps scorers - with the exception of the inevitable DSP goal the Caps were carried by their name players. I’d rather lose to the best teams and beat the teams that are my peers and below than be a team that wins the tough games but loses the gimmes. Those sorts of teams generally have no heart. I think this Devils team is slowly developing some heart along with everything else.

I thought we struggled to get scoring chances all night. I can't think of many, outside of the two goals and Hall going wide before he scored. Prout had a good chance in a prime scoring area in the 2nd, but it's Dalton Prout.

The Caps played a tight defensive game, and while they may not be as good on paper, I've said that their defense got better by purging that anchor Karl Alzner.
