My clue is pointing this way!

Watch where you point that clue, yo.

Anyway, Tally is gone and we got basically nothing for him(no offense to Riley Boychuk). I would of expected Lou to at least wrangle a 5th or lower(meaning 6th or 7th) from Buffalo but I guess I was hoping for too much.....

I said a year ago I would salary dump him if worst came to worse. He's more moveable than Salvador or Volchenkov. Just likely not movable enough to get anything of value.

Next up maybe we can jettison Volchenkov back to Ottawa? Can't have everything though right?

We have a better chance jettisoning Volch if we tell Ottawa he is an orange cone then an actual hockey player

Murray said during the Alfie leaving/Ryan arriving, press conference that the team was on a budget. What kind of a budget I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if they really don't have the money for cones to practice skating drills with.

in addition I think lams traded him to where he wanted to go so beggers couldn't be choosers, lou is very good to the old warriors.

So if you waive a player and he gets claimed, that is a salary cap loophole too?

I really didn't understand how a team willing to take a player and his salary is a loophole? all it means is the player has a contract that is of decent enough value for another team to take it. if that type of move were a loophole we would have traded volchenkov for ogie ogelthorpe and someone would have been willing to pay his 4 million per yr salary. nobody is willing to take volchenkov hence we eat his salary, tallinder contract had enough value to another organization so they will pay him, what we get in return is of no concern to the league

Good move

Greene-Larsson
Salvador-Fayne
Volchenkov-Zidlicky

is what I'm hoping for next season. The kids will get a shot when Volchenkov suffers his annual injury

or they can just outplay one of those guys and get their shot, im much more at ease with zidlicky on our roster at this point. although I do trust the devils assessment of the young guys so if they don't sign zid...then they must feel at least one of these kids can hang...with harrold as a fall back

Can anyone give me some insight on how Tallinder's skating is? He used to be incredibly fast as a Sabre. Thanks for any info!

Ok Darcy, you take Tallinder for your dead last player in your org and first dibs for when you decide to trade Vanek. Deal? Deal.

So much for all of us assuming Tallinder would fetch at least a 3rd... Taking Riley Boychuk back might as well be future considerations. But I guess something had to be done, and Lou's not trading the captain. Volch's value/NTC pretty much sealed Tallinder's fate.

Tallinder might get a 3rd at this year's deadline. Teams are in penny pinching mode right now. Not many have 3.5 million to spend. And if they do, they'd could go after somebody like Ron Hainsey, Ryan Whitney, etc.

For me, it ends up being Tallinder for Ryder even if we signed Ryder before dealing Tallinder.

I think the worst part for me is not being able to shake the feeling that Tallinder was probably the 3rd best defenseman on the roster, and trading him for an ECHL goon while Volchenkov and Salvador look forward to training camp.

I certainly don't disagree with you there. At least preseason will be interesting, Merrill/Gelinas/Urbom will have an opportunity to seize.

And btw if this is all Lou could get for Tallinder now then I can't exactly blame him as much for the 8-D merry go round (other than retaining Sal which was clearly a heart over head move). I really didn't think Tallinder's value was this bad on an expiring contract.

Yeah that's a good point about last season. Didn't help that Lou only had 20-30 games to do it, too, especially when injuries suddenly made having Tallinder/Fayne on the bench look way better than having some 7th round pick from 3 years ago in the minors.

Tallinder cost nothing to acquire. I don't care that we got practically nothing in return.

The issue with me is that you shouldn't be giving away your #3 defenseman with a good cap hit for nothing. With Larsson and possibly Urbom or Gelinas, it's possible Tallinder would have found himself more towards the bottom of the depth chart next season, but we don't know that for sure.

I guess the real issue is that Tallinder's injury issues (and his box scores) the last few years have substantially hurt his reputation, despite being a very solid defenseman when he's been healthy.

I honestly don't think the return had anything to do with anything.

Lou wanted to shed some salary, without taking anything back.
Tallinder wanted ice time, and he had good years up in Buffalo.

I think this was a case of Lou really not thinking about him as an asset, but as a player.

In the end, it doesn't really hurt the team in the least. The difference between Boychuk and the gamble of a mid/late round pick is minimal, anyway.
