Devils are still carrying a lot of players because of the split-squad games Monday, but we will probably see a 20-25 player cut the following day. I'd imagine McLeod survives that cut, gets another game on Wednesday with better competition and linemates, and then they make the judgement call.

Just for some fun, I'd imagine the cuts will be:

Definites:

G: Ken Appleby, MacKenzie Blackwood, Scott Wedgewood
D: Tim Erixon, Josh Jacobs, Viktor Loov, Jacob MacDonald, Brian Strait, Colton White
F: Brandon Baddock, Nathan Bastian, Austin Cangelosi, Brian Gibbons, Brandon Gignac, Bracken Kearns, Ryan Kujawinski, Jan Mandat, Kevin Rooney, Ben Thomson

Debatable, but likely cut (keep one forward if Boyle isn't back yet to run 5 lines):

D: Michael Kapla, Yaroslav Dyblenko
F: Blake Pietila, Nick Lappin, Blake Speers, John Quenneville

That would leave the Devils with the following group and needing to cut two players.

Hall - Johansson - Palmieri
Bratt - Zacha - Stafford
Henrique - Hischier - Noesen
Blandisi - Boyle - Hayes
Wood - Coleman - McLeod

Greene - Severson
Moore - Lovejoy
Mueller - Santini
Butcher - Prout

JQ is definitely still in the running. He looks jacked and it showed along boards. He won quite a few battle along the wall last night. Plus he's one a few Devils who doesn't hesitate to pull the trigger. Hynes had him at the half wall on most on their power-plays.

He would be next in line for me after McLeod.

You know what is going to happen. We are going to expect a blow out in Brooklyn and a good game in PEI.

So we will get crushed by Ottawa and somehow beat the Isles

Quite possible that all of:

McLeod
Q
Bratt
Speers
Butch
Lappin
Pietilla
Coleman

will not be in NJ once the season settles in. This is a good thing.

While we all watch PEI, Wood and Mcleod will have dazzling efforts in Brooklyn.

Personally think Quenneville is way ahead of Mcleod.

But are they competing for a spot?

Maybe they see Q as getting minutes as a RW?

I see it more Q vs Blender, or maybe even Q vs Wood. But I see Wood as a lock, and Blender having had the better preseason so far.

I think Q get's squeezed via #'s, but will certainly get a oppurtunity at some point this season.

Quite a few guys having decent camps are going to get squeezed to Bingo because of guys with better camps and simple numbers.

I don't think JQ has been bad at all, but you got guys like Bratt and Blender simply having outstanding camps.

Same with McLeod. I think he has been fine, better last night for sure. He has things he still needs to improve on, but it is hard to find an open spot for him right now. Even more so when Boyle and eventually Zajac return.

There really isn't any player I'm down on so far in this camp.

They are beautiful

1. Per coach John Hynes, here are the top three lines against the Senators:

Taylor Hall-Pavel Zacha-Kyle Palmieri

Marcus Johansson-Nico Hischier-Drew Stafford

Jesper Bratt-Adam Henrique-John Quenneville

That could very well be the top nine to start the year.

Some combination of Blandisi, Wood, Boyle, Coleman, Noesen, Hayes, or Lappin for the fourth line.

Has there been any word on Boyle's time line for a return? Or any type of schedule at all?
