Lupul: "Everything is fine. I'll be there tonight and I'll be there tomorrow."

Is this how they're actually lining up or should Lupul/Winnik be switched?

Hopefully Franson can play decently with Phaneuf... Phaneuf needs to sit back a bit more than usual and let Franson be the offensive one as we know he can't be the defensive one...

Will be interesting to see if the 3rd pairing influence the effectiveness of the previously effective 3rd line.

Question: Which defensive pairing goes out with the 4th forward line? Obviously the 1st pairing to start but has that been the case for the duration of the games so far?

Why the **** are Gardiner and Rielly together? We've already established they're terrible together at even strength

I swear, Randy Marsh could coach this team better than Randy Carlyle.

Can we please play the fourth line this game? Back to back against the same team. Get Frattin in there instead of Panik

They are so set on the right-left thing that they aren't willing to admit that Phaneuf plays much better on the right side.

I think it has more to do with the amount they ring the puck around the opposite side this year. Phaneuf has a tendency to bauble it going backhand to forehand in that situation. Rielly is much more agile and quick with it.

Seems odd going down to the ACC on a Friday night. I wonder how many will no show thinking this is a Saturday game?

Phaneuf is leading the D in scoring, Corsi, fenwick, and qualcomp since moving back to the left side.

Like that we're finally seeing a bit of stability in our forward lines. I think it can be attributed to the strong play of that 3rd line.

Would like to see Rielly and Franson switched in those pairings. Has Phaneuf been paired up with Rielly in the past?

You don't say. Never would have noticed watching him play. To be clear, Percy is tied with 3 assists.

He is also tied for the fewest shots on net with 3 -- not counting Gardiner who has sat.

After 4 games that means nothing. Last year Phaneuf was awesome for the first 70. He has been one of our worst defenders this year without question.

hmm, what means nothing - all the numbers? or the opinions of some kids on the internet?

I mean statistically speaking, it means nothing. Corsi doesn't work on a game to game basis, too much room for error.

By watching Phaneuf over the first 4 games I think it is fair to say he hasn't been very good. Stats are very useful but so is observing. He's been beat many times.

And I should add that Percy and Polak have been our best statistical defensmen. Look at the Off ZS/Corsi/Fenwick

People falling in love with the Percy-Polak pairing are the same kind who fell in love with Franson 2 years ago...they look good cause they're playing against 3rd and 4th liners while Phaneuf gets the tough assignments.

Robidas/Gardiner would look just as good against 3rd/4th liners

To some extent. Fraser - Franson was a fun pair to watch though.
