Uhh fractures in the skull (If I'm reading that right) isn't something to take lightly hairline or not. The lead singer of INXS had one IIRC and caused him to eventually commit suicide after years of depression.

I really hope Smith gets help for this now and later on in life after Hockey ends.

Yeah, that quote is pretty insane and to be clear, my prior comment was completely tongue-in-cheek.

Perhaps there's some part of the skull that isn't a big deal to have a hairline fracture. Seems like those places usually have their own names, like "cheek" or "orbital bone" rather than just being called a skull fracture.

If we have people on LTIR exception, I don't think we can save cap.
Didn't we kill gards so he's not on LTIR any more?

forgot about that... as @Gocanes0506 mentioned the emergency deadline could factor in.

Also, I don't think this necessarily has anything to do with the Chatfield move but on the broadcast yesterday they said TDA is a week away and has been skating full speed and told them he's ready to go, so it could be that he'll be back as soon as Thursday. Although I'd much prefer we play it very safe with him and keep him out another few weeks at least. No reason at all to rush him back.

oddly Bear has the lowest O zone start percentage on the team by almost 3 percent to Pesce, 50.67%. Chatfield on the other hand is the highest defender on the list at 66.23%

return before emergency deadline is up, maybe.
Actually I think he's very close to having played the allowed 10 NHL games after which he would need to clear waivers if sent down.

13.5 Waiver Expiration. The rights granted under this Article to Loan a Player(s) who is otherwise required to clear Regular Waivers to a minor league club expire for any Player(s) who, after clearing Regular Waivers:
(i) is not Loaned to a minor league club, or is Recalled from a minor league club (except on emergency Recall) and remains on an NHL roster for thirty (30) days (cumulative) or plays ten (10) NHL Games (cumulative), or
(ii) is Recalled from a minor league club on emergency Recall and plays in ten (10) NHL Games (cumulative) while on emergency Recall. For purposes of clarity, games played while on regular Recall shall not count towards the ten (10) NHL Games in this subsection (ii).

he is at 14
Yes, but the CBA makes difference if the games are played under emergency recall or not. I guess he was recalled normally, which may have altered to being on emergency recall at some point.

I think he was recalled on Feb 23, have there even been 10 Canes games since? Didn't he play up some games earlier this season?

If Chatfield is on emergency recall in November and December for up to 9, he can be a regular recall in February and March for up to 9. The opposite may have happened; CapFriendly doesn't make the differentiation. Chatfield has played in 9 games during this stint.

Update -

Not having an estimate on TDA's return 2 weeks after injury is starting to worry me a little.

Per reporters on the national broadcast a few days ago, core muscle injury and he personally thinks he's ready to go now, but that Canes management and Brind'Amour want to take their time and feel that they're in a position to do so.
