I kind of feel the same way about this. Our PP without TDA is... well, its not very good. And with him gone at least 4 weeks, we're looking at being without a PP QB for the following games:

Bold = Back2Back

Columbus
Edmonton
@ Detroit
@ Washington
Pittsburgh

Seattle
Colorado
Philadelphia
@ Pittsburgh
@ Toronto
Washington

New York Rangers
Tampa Bay
Dallas

With a road trip immediately following of
@ St Louis
@ Washington
@ Tampa Bay

I'm not sure we can afford to go this stretch without a PP QB. Our hands might be forced into a trade right now

Well, Slavin has done some work on the PP. Pesce before as well, though I don't love him there. I believe Skjei got a bit of time after DeAngelo went out? I'm sure if they see a deal they like out there that fits with what they already wanted to do, they'll pursue it, but I don't think they'll force anything. We'll be fine.

The deadline is March 21st. Rental sellers will start to fold on the high asking prices March 14th or so. There are 9 games between now and then, with 6 being at home. They’re at no risk of missing the playoffs. They can afford to be patient.

My thinking is that we are sure to make the playoffs.

As a result, unless TDA's injury is season ending I wouldn't sacrifice assets for a one-month problem (at least a month is a little worrisome though) even though we have a brutally tough March schedule.

If TDA comes back in early April then he'll finish out the season & be ready for the playoffs.

Of course, the Canes know the extent of the injury (perhaps tore a muscle in chest area) and any move they make would be recognizing their knowledge of a possible full recovery.

Slavin seems to be the logical man to step up and I hope Chatfield is fully recovered because he was solid earlier in the season.

I say don't overreact to this. We can comfortably make the playoffs without him. Even if a month turns into 6 weeks, he's back for the games that count.

Treat the TDL the same way you would if he were in the lineup. Don't go spending key assets to fix a short-term problem that doesn't impact our playoff roster.

While that's a good thought long-term, this injury also reminds us the PP is one random short-term TDA injury away from not having a PP QB in the playoffs.

I think it should make the Borg re-think the type of defenseman they look for to boost the bottom pairing heading into the playoffs.

(Or to pair with Slavin and let TDA go back to dominating on the 3rd pairing.)

Ok please though whatever we do don't make an overreaction overpayment trade for a stopgap just because Tony is out for a little while. Get someone with term that will also add the same value to the team even once TDA is back (as it sounds like he should be by the playoffs).

Chychrun should now be the main focus. Try to get him without giving up Skjei, Jarvis, Necas, Morrow or Nikishin. Any other prospects/picks should be on the table.

I don't think we need a rental.

But if we were on the fence about going after someone like Chychrun, who represents a more long term improvement, this might push us over the top toward making that move.

Cardiac cane im sure could whip up some real doozies of trade proposals. Bokk and Sellgren for Chychrun seems that be person’s speed

Chatfield hasn't played since getting cross checked from behind on Feb 11th

The point is we don't have to make a panic move right now. The team was likely already (and at times reportedly) looking at defense options and will likely continue to do so. They just don't need to force anything right now. I bet if we don't make a move up until the deadline we still win a healthy portion of our games. It's just kinda what we do.

Once again, I blame Gardiner for this predicament.

I let Keane or Necas QB the PP for now and see how it works out. Keane has done much better since the break. Run 7 D if you have to. Play Keane in more offensive situations and the PP, run Chatfield for D zone draws and PK, if need be.

Slavin-Bear
Skjei-Pesce
Cole-Keane/Chatfield

See how it goes.

Sheer volume of games, just keep rotating the 4th line players in and out. Put them into the double shift rotations to keep the other guys fresh.

I'd like to see Necas take a step back from trying to play the hero every time he has the puck on his stick before we let him run PP QB. Ideally, someone like Turbo is probably best suited for the role, but he's just so damn valuable with his passing down low that you almost can't bring him to the point. I'm really not sure who else I would use that isn't already a major contributor on the PP in another form. Maybe KK? He's got some pretty good passing skills and decisions in his back pocket? Jarvis, maybe?

turbo is a fine choice too. I like this position on the half wall to take / give those blind aho passes for goals.
