No matter how you slice this, it's not good that we lost out best player so far this season for tonight's game.

Agreed. Our concern about the offense is not negativity, Craw can't be Vezina every game, especially when he's not in net!

Massive downgrade in net

Wish we had Leighton as #2 and not Raanta

Have no faith the Hawks will win with Raanta in net

Darling did well in training camp. He deserves the chance ahead of Leighton IMO. And if any team knows to shoot everything at Leighton's 5 hole, it's the Flyers.

Raanta can keep up in the game. While he was not perfect last year this team proved that they can win with Raanta in net (how quickly we forget that he went 13-5-4 when Crow was hurt last year). Lets see how he does before we freak out.

Didn't he win 10 in a row or something close to that? He even shut out the Kings. Raanta will be fine. It isn't like we have some junior goalie back stopping us tonight. Raanta is good.

Huet was 26-14-4 in final year

That .897 sv pct one of the worst among goalies in NHL last year was what matters

Raanta should not be on NHL roster

Crawford had a .903 in a full season as a starter, should he be on an NHL roster? Raanta proved he could play decent for a stretch of games and is still developing, he absolutely deserves a shot at being the back up.

Raanta had an ok stretch before the book was out on him around league

Then he was picked apart ,, He is not an NHL goalie at this point and shouldn't have been rewarded with #2 job after his dismal performance last year

His poor stretch came when he was playing once a month...extremely difficult to be any good playing so rarely.

He had a decent stretch and looked like a legitimate backup when Crawford was injured.

1. Raanta is no longer a rookie
2. He's had ample time this summer to fix his shortcomings
3. There are a lot worse back-ups than Raanta
4. He won his position by outperforming the other goalies in our system during training camp (not as some would say he was "rewarded" the spot)
5. Hopefully the team tightens up knowing they don't have Crow to depend on tonight

So goalies can't improve?

Of course he can improve ,, While playing in Rockford

Guess what ,, Raanta as Corey's #2 wont play often

If he cant hack it in a situation that he plays 20-30 games a year then he shouldn't be the Hawks backup

A more traditional backup is what Hawks need. A guy who can come in cold and produce

When Crawford had a .903 should he have still been the starter? Or should he have been sent to the AHL because of that dismal performance?

Actually we all pretty much wanted an upgrade or open goalie competition after 2012. Of course Corey got more leeway given his track record in AHL and successful 2011 as NHL starter. We got an open goalie competition in 2013 and Crawford rose to occasion

Raanta had dismal rookie year and has no track record that says we should expect any different

And you were wrong then, maybe you should learn from that situation and apply it to this one. You're saying Raanta is terrible because of a .897 SV percentage, so Crawford must be terrible as well?

Edit: Since you edited, how are Crawford's average AHL numbers applicable but Raanta's fantastic Finnish numbers not? You're admitting Crawford improved and for some reason refuse to believe that Raanta can get any better. And if it's just that you think he's terrible and nothing can change your opinion, then say that and I'll let it go.

Seriously, are some of us that ignorant that we're going to dismiss his chances this year, prior to him playing in a single game? If he flops tonight, go ahead and say anything you want. Until then, do us (and him) the favor and keep quit.

.903 behind a D consisting of Montador/O'Donnell/Scott/Lepisto and Olsen >>>>>>>>>>> .897 behind D consisting of Keith (Norris winning Keith) , Seabrook , Hjalmarsson , Oduya , Leddy , Rozy/Brookbankd

2012 goalies = Crawford .903 and Emery at .900
2014 goalies = Crawford .917 and Raanta at .897

One year clearly had a lesser D that both goalies struggled behind ,, Last year one goalie was good and other was a joke

Also track record of Crawford as proven AHL/NHL starter >>>>> Raanta track record of nothing

I guess Raanta is the new Stalberg around here ,, Keep hyping him up and pretending he is something

And a goalie performing well in Europe means nothing ,, How did Salak turn out?
