Please don't tell me she has to work while she is 7 months into pregnancy.

Technically she doesn't have to but any time she takes off now would get taken from the back end of her 12 weeks of maternity leave so yeah. Silver lining is she is only part-time now so it's two 12-hour shifts per week.

One thing I WOULD RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE IS NOT GIVING HANDSHAKES DURING THE FLU SEASON IN GENERAL.

On a completely different note.

Did your paperwork come through?

Also make sure to leave all fist bumpers and high fivers hanging....nothing personal.

That is still pretty intensive, take care. Pun intended.
I am gonna say something socialist... YOUR COUNTRY HAS A WORK AHEAD OF ITSELF WHEN IT COMES TO MATERNITY LEAVE.

Living in Ameeeeerica

Frankly, I like the USA, but there are some fields that really need work.

@SlavinAway

I am by no means socialist at least by Czech standards.

But honestly, the Bismarck model of healthcare and health insurance? Pretty great stuff. And actually not socialist by any means.

My parents were born in an actual socialist country. My grandparents lived the majority of their productive life in it. I live in a country that is pretty damn great but still suffers from a post-communist mentality of dishonesty, corruption, and backstabbing. I'd say that I have a better understanding of the word than majority of posters from North America.

Healthcare is one of the things I am actually (still) proud of in my country. One of the lowest rates of tuberculosis and extremely low mortality of newborns.

I'm told that it did. Not that it matters if this things gets out of control- they'll rip up my retirements papers and I'll be out at RDU in a gas mask an chem warfare suit for the NCARNG before you can say "boo"

This thing is no joke, but so far panic is posing a greater danger in many countries because of absolute misuse and hoarding of protective gear.

According to WHO, it actually spreads less effectively than flu and very importantly unlike seasonal flu they consider it containable.

Not looking good, this will be a pivotal week. I have never seen the Trevi Fountain as empty of tourists as in the last few days, it really made an impression on me. In any case, my concern at the moment is to check that my mother (79) is behaving appropriately. Frankly, how can a person be prevented from going out for a walk? At any age.

This whole thing should be fine in 3 months.

Although... Please don't tell me she has to work while she is 7 months into pregnancy. (I don't consider it likely, but ... I have seen things.)
I had a coworker work up until 11 February when her due date was the 19th. She only gets 12 weeks of leave total, so the more time she took off before the birth would be less time she has with daughter after.

Being outdoors in areas that are not crowded is actually a good option. Your biggest fears should be crowded indoor spaces, like public transport.

My biggest fear is i could become asymptomatic and pass it to my mother. Today the government is shutting down schools and universities for 2 weeks/1 month. They are asking older people to not go out.

According to WHO it is unlikely in the sense, that you should develop the symptoms once you get infected, there are no carriers like in seasonal flu. The problem is the incubation period.

I sympathize with your fear. It is understandable and in a way healthy. But don't panic. Observe your health and focus on your personal hygiene the way you would during the flu outbreak and that's the best thing you can do for yourself and your community.

Same here. I work at a graduate school and teach microscopy mostly. Lots of students coming and going from all over the world and touching their eyes to the eyepieces....seems like a possible vector of transmission.

Yeah at this point I'm more concerned about over-reaction of the public than the actual illness. Still don't want to fly all over the place for a while if I can avoid it.

If this spreads less efficiently than the flu then they need to crank down on all these news channels that say it spreads as easily as the cold.

I do think they will stop having NHL games before crowds if it gets bad. NBA is already talking about it.

Sanitize the rubber covers. Sure won't hurt.

Not flying unless necessarily is definitely wise.

The best way to summarize the situation in the Czech republic is this joke - the first victim of the Coronavirus outbreak is a 72-year-old woman from Brno, who was stomped to death during a fight for the last package of canned tuna. (If the humor is too dry for anyone, I refuse to apologize.)

WHO Director-General's opening remarks at the media briefing on COVID-19 - 3 March 2020

SUMMARY

"To summarize, COVID-19 spreads less efficiently than flu, transmission does not appear to be driven by people who are not sick, it causes more severe illness than flu, there are not yet any vaccines or therapeutics, and it can be contained – which is why we must do everything we can to contain it. That’s why WHO recommends a comprehensive approach."

It is necessary to put things in context. It is definitely important to mention that it is dangerous especially to the elderly and immunocompromised and we lack vaccination or specific therapy. On the other hand, it can be contained. Meanwhile containing flu is impossible.

Trust me, I would like to punch several members of the press in the throat and break their fingers to prevent them from spreading panic.

To search for the details on differences between COVID and flu.
