Its probably a good deal if MacKinnon progresses like he's projected to do. A guy that had some struggles is much more likely to agree early to a very long-term than a guy who came into the league and played like a star all the time.

Sure its a bit risky if he stagnates but he has great potential and has already shown many glimpses of whats possible.

Overrated

He's not even 21 yet, he's consistently produced at a top 6 rate on a bad team, and he's gotten continuously better at aspects of the game outside of point production. He's worth the contract as it stands, and will be worth more likely as soon as September.
