A 16 games sample means very little in the context of those long-term deals (except Giroux). All your post proves is players react differently to changes and have different strengths and weaknesses, which any knowledgeable hockey fan should understand, but clearly, not everyone does.

Coming from an open, offensive style in Florida, to a Sutter-style game is a drastic change and something Huberdeau needs to figure out. It might take time, but it doesn't mean he's lost all his previous abilities after 16 games.
Yea you are right. He is below his career average of under 1 point per game. He should catch up eventually.

Man that contract....woooof

I thought it would be at least a season before this contract turned in to toxic waste.

Happy to be wrong.

Haha, only flames things. 🤣

As long as you eat the bigger crow for predicting Tkachuk's season in Florida, away from the mighty carriers that be Gaudreau and Lindholm.
Tkachuk was my favourite Flame. I thought he was our best player for the last few years. I didn't think he would produce this way. No one did. But the season is still young. He might cool off. He might not.

He's doing exactly what his coach is asking him to do. If there is criticism to go around it should be pointed towards Sutter for tasking him to play a far more stable and quite frankly boring style of hockey. This exact same thing happened to the likes of Iginla, Kopitar, Selanne, Brown, etc.. under Sutter. This isn't new, nor completely unexpected.

5 on 5 Huberdeau currently has
The highest SF% of his career at 55.43%
The second highest CF% of his career at 55.19%
The highest GF% of his career at 73.33%
The highest xG% of his career at 58.77%
The highest SCF% of his career at 54.94%
The highest HDCF% of his career at 63.10%
The lowest oiSH% of his career at 7.19%

He's also currently 140th in PP time, and has just 6 powerplay points on the year.

Just curious what his numbers were last year vs this year if he's having career highs this year opposed to his breakout year?

Can you post them side by side to see increase(s)?

I will never understand why GM are so hurry to sign those 30 years old player. Like if players could improve significantly. Gallagher was a mistake the moment he signed in Montreal. Now we are stuck with him

And it wasn't just one player, Treliving signed three UFAs who will all be 30+ when their new contracts kicks in. And he gave them max length deals without them playing a single game for the Flames. The wizard got bamboozled by the Florida man.

I thought it would be at least a season before this contract turned in to toxic waste.

Imagine when the new contract starts and pressure in the Canadian market really kicks in. He will be the highest earning Flame of all time by a wide margin and will get absolutely roasted when the honeymoon is over if he doesn't produce. Actually just producing isn't enough, at 10.5 million he needs to carry a team. :help:

Last year / This year

CF% - 55.39% / 55.19%
SF% - 55.11% / 55.43%
GF% - 56.52% / 73.33%
xG% - 53.44% / 58.77%
SCF% - 54.77% / 54.94%
HDCF% - 51.23% / 63.10%
HDGF% - 63.89% / 76.92%
oiSH% - 10.12% / 7.19%

Very similar numbers too last year - just in a much different way. He's giving up far less against- but as a result creating less as well - and his teammates are not finishing at the same rate.

Last year / This year
xGF/60 - 3.21 (highest of his career) / 2.7
xGA/60 - 2.8 (highest of his career) / 1.89 (lowest of his career)

He’s been really good lately, minus last game.

At some point he’ll start racking up points again, you can see he just has vision that other players don’t. It might just be a tough year.

Kadri and Coleman are the contracts that concern me. Huberdeau and Weegar will be solid additions for years.

I mean he’s been bad to start the season, but you do realize he most likely will get to 80 points this season (pace), yeah? We are He is notorious for disappearing and then crapping out 10 points in 3 games. It’ll happen.

Ya that's fair, I could see 80 points. He will need to go on one of his extended heaters soon though.

My main point is, he's better than what he's shown and even if it is a down year I would still expect him to bounce back next season. Some people here are acting like this 20 game sample is what we'll see for the next 8 years.

Hope Huberdeau can start racking up the points soon.

Still kind of bummed his tenure ended the way it did. Should of been a lifer but the deal was hard to pass up and I get the contract side of things. He could of played hardball when the team was shit but he wanted to stick around early on.

Honestly he has been, most Flames fans just aren’t in the mood to point out positives things about the team currently. 10 points over his last 12 games, and over a point per game in his last 5. All the signs have been there of him finally starting to fit in and establish some chemistry, with still plenty more room for growth. He’s also still one of our top forwards in most defensive metrics as well while the points have started to come.

Lmao Flames fans trying to cover for him, he looks complete ass. Putting some points on the PP but that's it.

There's no question it looks bad now. Huberdeau and Weegar are both playing well below expected levels. That said, I was expecting 80-90 points from Huberdeau and solid D with 45 points from Weegar. 115 was a mirage.

I loved the trade at the time. But I wanted both Weegar and Huberdeau flipped for picks/prospects at the TDL. We needed to do a full and proper rebuild for the 1st time in franchise history.

he’s on a new team we need to give them at least 20 games , there are new systems to learn. Oh wait. ….it’s game 27.

I'm an Oilers fan so I'm not trying to cover for him, I just have respect for his abilities as a player. I think this site could use more of that, and less of the attitude you seem to have.

Sorry not one for blind homerism. He looks horrible under Sutter, nothing to do with his abilities (which are overrated btw).

they already have built in excuses for this season.

- new team/coach/teammates
- playing in the WC
- Sutter's system

the pain hasn't even started yet for the flames, his 10.5m contract kicks in next season.

They could have flipped him and weegar at the TDL for some picks.

They could have had a nice shot at bedard if they commited to the tank
