They're aiming to not be at the bottom against next season.

The front office has always said this was a retool and not a full rebuild. Obviously the injuries and underperformance this season was not expected. Their core is Gaudreau, Laine, Werenski, Johnson, Jiricek, and 3rd OA this year so they're looking to build up.

Have to imagine Boqvist. Peeke fills a role but Gudbranson probably can’t be moved realistically. Jiricek has to be untouchable.

Yes and no. We're already past the point in the rebuild where one vacuums up lots of really good prospects, and now need to have some guys to stand in front of them and eat the hard minutes so they have room to grow.

So there is a desire to get more wins, but it's not yet a "push for the Cup" level of win now. More of a "build the kids' confidence so that we can push in a couple years" win now.
