I think adding Provorov and Severson makes the defense better than what it was. The issue is cost but I don't think it actually prices any other moves out.

I don't like that they acquired Gudbranson last year because he actually makes our defense worse than just rolling with a young guy like Berni or Christiansen.
so is it worth it?

should the rebuild be over?

I think the Jackets should switch focus from adding talent to keeping and developing what talent they've acquired.

Keep happy: Gaudreau, Laine, and Werenski
Develop: Johnson, Jiricek, Marchenko, 3rd OA guy they select.
Acquire: A starting goalie.

That plus Severson should round out your core moving forward.

do you still think cbj are making good moves?

Yes.

Werenski- Jiricek
Provorov- Severson

Blueline in 24-25.

Do you realize how much better that is for the past?
With Svozil& Mateychuk still there as well

how far do you see that team going?

seems premature to be adding these contracts to me.

I think the team finishes 13th-18th in the East this year with 50/50 chance they make the playoffs and are out in the 1st round.

The benefit of Provorov, Severson, etc. this year is insulating the young guys with vets which helps the young guys develop. If they end up at the bottom again this season, then they'll take the pick but I think that winning more games is almost always a good thing.

Is Jarmo desperate? I suppose so in the sense that he absolutely HATES losing. He's a guy who would take the win at the end of the year against Pittsburgh even though it bumps the team out of being last in the rankings. That sucks if you're playing NHL23 as a GM but for a team like Columbus having a super competitive GM is probably a good thing since you can't rely on weather / mega-city / hometown draw for very many players so if you aren't winning then you're losing.

But honestly I don't think his job is in jeopardy (yet). More likely if they make a GM move it'll be to promote Jarmo to President when John Davidson retires.

Why?

Why should they try to be a basement level team?

I’d say a contender in 2-3 years time, playoff team definitely by year 2. Next year in the WC hunt.

Carlsson
Johson
Werenski
Jiricek

That’s helluva core to try build around

I assume you meant Fantilli instead of Carlsson.

Awesome trade by Jarmo.

Provorov will munch minutes for the already injury ridden Columbus defense
Yeah, we're very familiar with his particular kind of minute munching.

All of Provorov’s coaches in Philly had him play too many minutes.
Hopefully Werenki’s injury is only reason why he got 25 minutes.
and hopefully for Columbus they have depth to ensure IP stays under 21 mins.
No way IP deserves to be top 10 in munching like he was last year (7th).

I hope provy finds his groove. Idk why flyer fans hate hi so much. He wasn’t what we thought he would be but he could’ve been a very serviceable defensemen if we found a clear #1 and had him in the position the cbj have him in. He’s not even on a pp unit when werenski is healthy and that is the perfect role for prov.

Last 2 seasons:
IProvorov 58 pts, -37, 23 mins vs
TSanheim 54 pts, +4, 21 min

none are 1st pair and pp types.
But both very good 20 mins types.

Tortorella might turn TS in IP 2.0 if he plays him 26 mins like 1st game.

play both Zamula and Andrae with York and Sanheim. Rotate older vets Staal, Walker, Seeler, Ristolainen.

Don’t get fooled by two ENG on him yesterday, the guy was gassed
He's still recovering from being involved in a three-way with a couple other men.
