this is a really good questionI'm not even sure if Montreal is allowed to match this because they'd be more than 10% above the cap

Waddell walking into Bell Centre this upcoming season
Yes.. or if they wanted they can file Team requested Arbitration and potentially get him for 15% less then 6.1m all sorts of options..Can the canes let him walk after next year and sign him as a UFA to a lower amount than his QO ?
For that money ? Really ? He’s not worth half that deal. I don’t think it’s as easy as you think. Carolina majorly f***ing with burger van here. Love itlots of fans getting their kicks here but mb INSTANTLY knew he would match and no doubt does so quickly
This is win/win for Carolina. Montreal matches and they screw over the Habs with his large cap hit and he can go UFA if Montreal doesn’t qualify him. If Montreal doesn’t match then Carolina can test drive him for the year and if they don’t want to qualify him it only cost them a late 1st and 3rd. Something they would have paid at the trade deadline for a rental anyways.
iirc, you don't get the whole cap hit as relief if you do offseason LTIR... someone correct me if I'm wrongBut there is a reason most teams avoid Not in season LTIR I can't recall it but yes them(Montreal) fenagling the money won't be hard if that's their choice.
they can just extend him. the 6m is only if they send him a qualifying offer for his rfa statusCan the canes let him walk after next year and sign him as a UFA to a lower amount than his QO ?

Paying a 1st and a 3rd for a crazy expensive player that doesn't really address a need is a win? I mean kudos to Carolina, they f***ed over MB in a good way, but still, I'm sure they are hoping the Habs match because they don't want that contract and to lose their 1st and 3rd.This is win/win for Carolina. Annnnd you're still not getting Eichel for that trash offer.
- Secure a deal with Buffalo
- Take the picks
- Mtl 1st + Car 1st + Guhle for Eichel
- Go from KK to Eichel
- Profit
We all know how this is going to go: either Habs let him walk and he goes on to a massive breakout season along Aho and TT and Habs fans have to live with letting their long awaited franchise center go just a year too soon... or they keep him and its just more of the same of his last 2 regular seasons but now he has the extra pressure of this contract ruining him for good and they choose not to QO and lose him for nothing or trade his rights for a far worse return.

- Offer 1st + Car 1st + Guhle + Weber (will never dress for them) for Eichel
- Buffalo laughs and hangs up the phone
sounds like CAR really likes this player and wanted him. maybe they feel they can re-sign him to a contract more in line with his levelPaying a 1st and a 3rd for a crazy expensive player that doesn't really address a need is a win?
