Carolina picking up scraps, if they are done can't imagine they can run with the top teams in the East. I get Dundon's goal is to be good every year but I can not imagine this model taking a team all the way. Which may not matter if the fan base is ok with lots of regular season wins and little success in the playoffs. Which based on these threads they seem to be.

I’m not even going to push back against the passive aggressive, skeptical comments here.

It is only Wednesday, but it appears that they’re planting their flag and saying to the rest of the league that effectively “we’re smarter than you.” If it turns out that they’re not, they will deserve to get ripped. Time will tell.

3rd rounder for a poor man’s JM Liles seems meh for a team that wants to challenge for a cup.
Ghost is a nice PP specialist that they’ll have to hide in a long series.
He will lead all playoff dmen in poke checking the puck around the back of his net to avoid taking a hit. Not a good trait for a playoff team.

I like the fit with Carolina. They actually have the depth ahead of him to put Ghost in a position to succeed, just playing soft minutes and putting up points. Cheap acquisition price too, which is pretty much a Carolina trade hallmark.
Sounds like he'll fill the DeAngelo role from last year...actually wait did DeAngelo play with Slavin maybe that's not true

I think Carolina is watching their top rivals over spend and over exert themselves this year, and while they have spent assets, they haven't gone "all in" like the Rangers, Lightning, Bruins or Maple Leafs. Next year I think the Hurricanes and Islanders have put themselves in a position to succeed, even if either knocks it out of the park this year.

I like how you state that. That's honestly kinda always been their MO and mantra since Dundon and Waddell took over.

But like I've said on our own board, I doubt they'll be ripped too badly. There is a cult of personality surrounding them not only here but reddit and other places of discussion as well. Maybe you won't get downvoted or shit on like you do now for criticizing them but I still don't see them getting ripped in any meaningful way.

They'll take some heat when/if we get eliminated for a day or two then everyone will be back to the cult of personality thing.

This trade makes even less sense.
While I don't think this trade was anything to write home about and I do wish the team would have focused more on a scoring forward (which they still may), the Canes DID have a need for a depth defenseman AND do have a need for a better option on the PP, so in that sense it makes sense.

Their bottom pairing is Chatfield and DeHann, who have been decent, but after that there is nobody I'd feel comfortable putting in the line-up. On the PP, they've tried Pesce and Skjei on the 2nd unit and it's had mixed results.

Like I said, I would have rather they focused on a scoring forward, but a depth defenseman and PP help does make some sense. Kind of a "meh" move overall though.

I like the bargain bin trades/contracts the Canes are doing. Not just talking about this trade deadline. They gave next to nothing to add Burns and Pacioretty. Even though Pacioretty didn't work out because of injuries. They have the most sustainable way at staying competitive. They even got value out of DeAngelo.

Lots of low risk average to high reward moves. Hard to find a team with better cap management.

No, he was traded to clear cap space for Rasmus Ristolainen who only required a first and a second

Ok...the return on Ghost, a 2nd and a 7th was nothing.

The repercussions of that trade
was the loss of a 1st and a 2nd and the Flyers being stuck with Ristolainen and his ridiculous 5 year contract.

Better?
