Also, AA's contract isn't that bad when compared to the $5M/yr guys like Bolland, Clowe, and Clarkson have gotten.
We'll just have to wait and see. I don't think Stan would extend AA if he didn't have good reason to think he would fit.
If Kane can drag Handzus around for a couple years, I'm sure AA will be fine.
The one thing that Anisimov cant hold a candle to against Vermette is at the dot. AA is mediocre at faceoffs.
The big worry about AA isn't his skill level, it's how his body will hold up. He's suffered from more concussions than most in the league, and while I haven't kept a close eye on him over the years, BJ and NYR fans have commented before about how he's injury prone.
Time will tell if he'll have a better track record for us.
That doesn't mean he was worthy of a long term extension before ever playing a game for the team.
No, far better to let him play out the year unsecured and racking up big points next to Kane, that way the Hawks can lose him to a huge UFA contract for nothing in return so that we can watch another in the series of stand-in stiffs in their mid-30's slow Kane down for the remainder of his prime years

I liked acquiring him to a degree (at least Stan is taking a shot at a long-term fix to a hole the team has had for years), but the rush to extend an oft-injured 27 year old center to a 5 year deal with a not insignificant cap hit was nothing short of perplexing.
One more concussion and this guy's brain may turn into mush.
Who have they jerked around?
Mostly prospects but let's not go back there.

So, I'm confused as to what we will do to fill the veteran void on the third defensive pairing. Word is out of Edmonton that they have just about given up on the Justin Schultz experiment. Anybody think Stan may want to look into a trade? Perhaps the Oilers can retain salary. I'd be willing to give Versteeg, Shaw and Svedberg. Any thoughts?
Schultz is an RFA, so it would be hard for the Oilers to retain any salary unless they settle on a new contract. And we don't even know how much of an annual cap hit that new contract could be for.
So unless we can somehow get him for under 2.5m a year, I can't say I'm all that interested in acquiring him.
Prospects and Leddy last summer, but yeah, I'd rather not go through yet another argument about it.
Long and short of it is that unless more comes out about the whole thing, I don't feel the front office deserves the benefit of the doubt about jerking Oduya around.
I'm generally one of the most optimistic people around here, but even I'm having a hard time swallowing the idea that we should just assume Anisimov is going to light it up here and then be worth oh so much more next summer.
.
I thought he was RFA after this season. I can see plenty of teams overpaying for him. I really think Daley will be a liability on defense. I'm also not convinced about TVR. Don't get me started on Rundblad.
How'd they jerk leddy around?
The way I saw it at the time, they knew they were trying to trade Leddy long before they actually pulled the trigger, yet they kept floating the Oduya trade rumor all summer. They kept Leddy in the dark the whole time.
I might have that wrong, and would be happy to be proven so. Like I might've had unrealistic expectations or missed a rumor or two, but that's the way I remember seeing the whole thing at the time.
Preemptively overpay when you don't know what you're getting. What a philosophy
