Make predictions of the Team Canada team for the wc this year if these teams end up not making the playoffs.

New York Rangers -
Toronto Maple Leafs - Phaneuf, Giguere, Beachumin
Montreal - Cammalleri
Tampa - Stamkos, St Louis. Lecavalier
Florida - Weiss
NYI -
Carolina - Staal, Ward
Calgary - Iggy, Regher, Bouwmeester
STL -
Dallas - Riberio, Richards, Morrow
Anaheim - Getzlaf, Perry, Niedamayer
Minnesota - Burns
Columbus - Nash, Mason
Edmonton - Cogliano, Horcoff, Souray, Ganger, Penner

I'd add Schenn to the list for the Maple Leafs just because he was there last season.

st louis will go if stamkos goes

other than that, I guess it boils down to if they can say no to mark messier.

A few olympic snubs may want to get back on the team canada radar.

I think you would be surprised how many will say "no" to Messier. They said it to Gretzky, they said it to Yzerman, they will say it to Moose too.

I think St. Louis feels a little slighted not being on the Olympic team, and won't be on the team in 2014, so I am not sure he will want to do it. If he wants to go strictly because Stamkos does, then I could see it, but I am not expecting it.

Yeah, I think the odds of that are zero.

I'd bet atleast one of them goes. Some people just love representing their countries. Believe it or not.

2006 when Sweden won both the olympics and the WCs many returned for a second stint.

There's always the possibility of a World Cup. I wouldn't be surprised if he said no either, but if he wants to get back/stay on their radar ... :dunno:

See, it means something to Sweden, and I am not saying that to start a fight. It just doesn't have any weight in Canada. We literally have to beg guys to come to this tournament.

I would absolutely shocked if we see even one guy who was on the Olympic team. Unless the Penguins don't go far in the playoffs, and Fleury wants to go. That is the one guy I could see doing it.

That is true, I am not saying it is impossible, I would just honestly be shocked.

I'll come back and bump this thread when you are wrong. It'll be a blast ;)

The European players actually care about winning the Worlds. It's a lot harder convincing Canadians and Americans to risk injury for a tournament they don't care about.

Heatley used to go every year when he was on the Sens thats why he is second in scoring all time for Canada. Also Nash was going last year after Columbus got eliminated but there wasn't any time so he decided to stay.

Sure. I will tell you the reaction I will have, it will be absolute shock because nobody really cares about this tournament here. It is just a fact of life. I like the tournament, but I am obsessed with hockey.

St Louis goes every year.

Yeah and I would be shocked if Bouwmeester didn't go.

Guys like Getz and Perry might want to go just to complete their gold streak, they'd both have worlds, olympics, cups, and world juniors.

But we'll see who makes the playoffs and not.

Yeah, but how much of that was trying to build Olympics cred? I am not saying that is wrong, it is 100% the right thing to do if you are in St. Louis's position, but I just wonder about how interested he will be now.

He could go, I would just be surprised. I am not saying it could not happen.

S'what I mean. NA players just don't care. Nobody watches this tournament in North America.

I can't even talk to friends of mine who love hockey about it, because they are just watching the playoffs.

Good point, I didn't think of that. I think it mostly depends on who's young (they don't have wives and kids they've been ignoring all season) and healthy.
