Unless they somehow stop their best players from leaving, the level will be on par with Soviet First Division (Tier II league).

When you read comments on Russian sites, they are hopping, this is the new start for All Russia sport. They see the bright future, that now will be the money pushed into young players, teams, beginning from kids and all this will lead to new fantastic generation.
And the world will on the knees begging them to come back.

There are also some critics, thats for sure. But not so many.

Btw. did someone saw @vorky ?

Players with foreign passports will be attempting to leave en masse. That border station from Russia to Finland is about to overwhelmed.
Simple geography question: why are they all going to Finland?
What is the main reason a European hockey league isn’t feasible? Why can basketball, handball, volleyball, etc manage it but hockey can’t?
Just lack of fan interest, for whatever reason, and smaller budgets. At least compared to the basketball clubs, don't know about other sports. It's just not worth the cost of investment.

Mainly because ice hockey is traditionally popular just in Sweden, finland and russia ish. And in Sweden hockey is not even the most popular sport.

Thankfully they won't. KHL showed that travel is too expensive, fans prefer domestic games to international, etc.
Slovan definitely had higher attendances, spectator & merch revenue when it was in KHL than now in the Slovak league. Obviously travel costs likely ate all of that and more. A European league similar to NHL would be awesome, but I understand that funding that currently seems like science fiction.

Unless they are Russian or Finnish citizens, they can't.

Several already have. Canadians players for example. They can also exit by car:

Suomen KHL-pelaajien äkkipäätös – perheet turvaan Venäjältä yksityiskoneella

Myös autolla pääsee rajan yli. Sunnuntaina KHL-joukkue Torpedo Nizhni-Novgorodin päävalmentaja Dave Nemirovsky ja joukkueen muut kanadalaiset pakenivat Venäjältä autolla Vaalimaan raja-aseman kautta.
Kolmikko paineli rajalta suoraan Helsinki-Vantaan lentokenttähotelliin ja seuraavana aamulla kotiin Kanadaan.

It is hard to stay in Russia and play hockey when Russia doesn't even admit they are in a war in Ukraine. The cultural differences are too high now and western players should leave KHL now.
It's no secret that there's a war, stop falling for the propoganda. Did you believe the snake island story too.

KHL will be fine, with or without western players. The game on now is fantastic, no Finnish players, no problem.

Funding for KHL teams isn't that simple either. They are paid for by oligarchs, which doesn't sit well in western democracies.

From what I have read it seems that the main sticking points for a better system in Europe are extensive travel costs, keeping a relegation system and playing more domestic games as fans prefer it (which I firmly doubt, I would much rather watch the Canucks play the Kings rather than the Prince George Cougars). I think a hybrid system, which I have posted elsewhere, would grow the game immensely. Also as for the argument that great minds in Europe have thought of it and cant make it work is neglecting the variable of Russia/ KHL issues changing the landscape like never before.

My suggestion is to create 3 different leagues and each 3 have 3 tiers of relegation. One league in central Europe containing teams from the Czech, Slovak, Austrian and Polish leagues. Another league in Western Europe containing teams from the German. Swiss, French and British leagues. The third league would be made up of all the Nordic countries and would look like:

Sweden - 20 teams
Finland - 13 teams
Norway - 3 teams
Denmark - 3 teams
The Baltics - 3 teams
Total - 42 teams
What teams would you add and delete? I kinda just sorted the teams based on population and arena size.

13x4= 52 games in a season
top 8 teams play 3 rounds of best of 7
bottom 6 in tier 1 play the top 6 in tier 2 in a best of 7 for relegation
Bottom 8 in tier 2 play the top 8 in tier 3 in a best of 7 for relegation
bottom 6 in tier 3 season is over once the 52 games have been played
eg. the team who finishes 9th in tier 1 would play a best of 7 vs the team that finishes 6th in tier 2

Champions league could be reformatted as the top tier from all three leagues could play each other and the winner could be included as the 4th team in a final four (Champions League winner vs the 3 winners from the 3 leagues).

Volleyball and handball in Europe is both done with domestic leagues with international champions league type competition....

Regardless, hockey won't work because not enough fan interest and travel costs are too much. Those sports are all run as a business with the purpose being to make money, or at least break even. A European hockey league would not make money.

You are not wrong stating Slovan had higher attendance, increased revenues, but you need to understand the gigantic difference between the words "more," "higher," and "increased" and the word "enough."

Should be a name change coming next season, No? It's hardly a 'Kontinental' league at this stage.
This comment keeps showing up.

Russia the country spans Europe and Asia? We have teams from Belarus in the west to Vladivostok on the Pacific Coast. Even if Minks, Kunlun and Nursultan left the league still spans Europe and Asia with only Russian teams? So Kontinental is not incorrect?

Kontinental is incorrect. Kontinental implies that there's teams from all over the continent, ie. more than a few countries. That clearly won't be the case anymore.

I don't care personally what any league is called, but there still are teams over the continent? Though given the isolation Russia is facing now it might be better to revert back to Russian Superleague or something more inclusive
