I think any McAvoy/Sergachev talk should be colored with the fact that a rookie D has won the calder only 4 times in 20 years, or 20% of the time. It is HIGHLY likely that the voters give it to a forward.

Keller, Hischier, Boeser are probably the favorites. My homer pick is Anders Bjork, not because I think he is the best rookie, but because he is going to be playing with Bergeron and Marchand, assuming his play doesn't falter too much, and their possession numbers and his PP time will really push his point totals, which is all these voters care about.

Sergachev isn't going to get the ice time to even be considered, so offensive performance notwithstanding, I don't think he really has a shot. McAvoy will though.

I'm trying to not hype Sonny up too much, but man that kid can finish. I don't know that he'll win the Calder he still makes a lot of rookie mistakes, but when he touches the puck you really see why he had comparisons to Patty Kane. It's extremely doubtful he gets to that level but he could definitely become a poor man's Kane.

as of now its pretty close betwren about 8 players. still early but no one really stands out far above in these games.

I think hischier wins it. it's easier for a forward, and he's the younger so probably steepest learning curve among the candidates.

Keller looks legit

Mcavoy is getting more and more opportunity

Dmen that only play 15-16 mins a night as pp specialists wont end up being considered

If bergeron/marchand stay healthy and bjork stays as their winger... he could easily finish the season with numbers no other rookie can touch

All in all... way too soon. But its nice to see at least 10 guys making impact for their teams

Sergachev's ice time will climb if he continues to do what he does. Which is not to say that I'm expecting him to win the Calder.

It's early.

It should be given to Keller just so the Coyotes can win at least one thing this season because they sure as hell can't win games and this dude is doing everything he can to keep them in it. It's actually sad.

Keller for sure is making a case for it . I never thought Arizona would be this bad . I thought they would be a bubble team all year long at least

Keller was my pick at the start of the year, still think he's on top. Hischier has looked real good too, can definitely win it as well. McAvoy and Boeser have looked great.Im so happy Sergachev is doing well in Tampa, I thought he was a perfect fit for them and even though it hurts to have lost him I always thought he would have never reached his potential here (MTL) or maybe it would be tougher for him especially with our offense. He's being sheltered and makes rookie mistakes but he's learning, its normal for a 19 year old and he's been shooting the puck so well. Can be a huge threat for the Calder with that offense to feed

Usually the 18 year old rookies take 20+ or so games before things click and they start producing points. The calder is so unpredictable.

Doubt he’ll win it but Connor is currently on a line with Scheifele and Wheeler, if he can stick he could start putting up some big numbers.

Obviously small sample size but I think based on the first 10% of the season, you'd be looking at Keller, Sergachev, and Kempe as the finalists.

Lots of other names still in the mix though. Hischier, McAvoy, Boeser, Kerfoot, Milano.

Boesers IQ is keeping him in this race. His skating is below average but Shot and IQ are elite.

Great chemistry w. Horvat and Baerstchi
If he plays 80 games this yr then i can see him getting 60 pts.

Currently leads the canucks in pts with 9 in 8 games.
