Why?????
He was actually a defenseman for many of his earlier years. The numbers aren't the greatest but he was converted to forward.

I really like this trade for us. Deslauriers brings a physical presence and he can scrap, he's a better fit for us in Laval. Both are AHL'ers tho, Redmond can probably play as a team's #6/#7 (don't think you really want him to be a regular in your lineup tho) but he's nothing special and is always injured.

Habs were approaching their ahl veteran count. Redmond counted this guy doesn't

We were over for the vet count. Deslaurier count as he has 193 AHL games and 211 NHL games (414 total). It changes a D (we had too many vet D) for a forward.

Kyle Baun for Martinsen is the one that removes a vet.

Why is Montreal so obsessed with former Sabres 4th line plugs? (Flynn, Byron, Mitchell, Scott, and now D-lo)

More defensive depth is never a bad thing, though, especially with Bogosian and McCabe already hurt.

Flynn was a serviceable plug.
Byron is absolutely lit, he's one of the fastest guys in the league and his hands got a bit better with opportunity this year. Great 3rd line option to me.
Mitchell was one of our best 4th line centers in recent memory. And we had Yanic Perreault. Hard worker, great defensively, gives his all every game, contributes a bit offensively, decent skater, amazing on faceoffs.

If we're not giving up much for them then who cares?

Lernout and Juulsen need to play big minutes in the AHL as RHD. And the additions of Jerabek/Morrow and Taormina as PMD make it easy for us to move on from Redmond.

Changing of the guard. Just switching out and adding depth for Rochester. A player who was one of the last cuts, and they brought in Nolan who is more fleet of foot while adding to the draw. In addition, the grit you need. Very minor move. Good luck Des!

he'll be like the 10 DMan on the depth chart... purely AHL move for Montreal

considering Des hasnt played defense in about 5 years or so I'd say you're evaluation might be off..but considering how useless both players are does it really even matter?
